Word for Today, Fri, 22 Nov 2002: Urges and Passions of Christ

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

I'd like to share with you two things as we come to the end of a
work week. First, I'd like to share with you again the passage I
shared a while ago from 1 Timothy. It seems appropriate at the
present time to be mindful to remember to pray for others, as
this scripture passage urges us to do.

Then I'd like to share a short passage from Philippians that
gives us a glipse of why the apostle Paul was so determined to
proceed with his missionary journeys and share his faith with
others. Oh, the desire to be like Christ and to be with Christ.
I can see why such desires strip away everything else. And you?

Your Brother in Christ,
Brian

1 Timothy 2:1-8, New Living Translation (NLT)

1 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. As you make
your requests, plead for God's mercy upon them, and give thanks.
2 Pray this way for kings and all others who are in authority, so
that we can live in peace and quietness, in godliness and
dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 for he
wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. 5 For
there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and
people. He is the man Christ Jesus. 6 He gave his life to
purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message that God gave
to the world at the proper time. 7 And I have been chosen - this
is the absolute truth - as a preacher and apostle to teach the
Gentiles about faith and truth. 8 So wherever you assemble, I
want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from
anger and controversy.

Your Brother in Christ, Brian

Verse: But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss
for Christ. 8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the
excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I
have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish,
that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my own
righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through
faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; 10
that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the
fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11
if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but
I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus
has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to
have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things
which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are
ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward
call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:7-14

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to accept what is. Help me to let go
of the past and the future. Help me to put today in your hands
and accept what it brings me. Amen.
