Word for Today: Fwd: [WFT] Tue 19 Sep 2000 - Lord, teach me how to live!

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

I'd like to send you another issue of Bob Gass's Word for Today.
I don't know about you, but the title of this message is a frequent
personal prayer of mine.

My own prayer might go something like this:

Dear Lord, I am very aware of just how much I need You today.
Please give me constant assurance of Your Presence, help in
every situation. Lord, You know how easy it is for me to get
caught up in the busy activities of the day and leave You behind
in my thoughts and actions. I want You to know right now that it
hurts me when I realize that I do this to You. Please forgive
my insensitivity to You. I need You, I admit that, and my heart's
desire is to be with You. Help me to make appropriate choices today,
and remind me to consult You before making any choices. I know that
every time that I give You first place in the events of my day, You
go before me, and make a way for me.

Lord, I do not fear death, for I want to be with You. I do fear
the pain that comes with suffering, and I also fear that I may leave
things undone if I do not deal with the things that come before me,
as You lead me. May each step I take, each breath I make, every
moment that lies ahead, be moments where not only You are in control,
but moments that I conscientiously give them to You. Work in me, that
this may be so!

Dear God, I'm thinking of a song that a Vineyard Music worship leader
wrote, not long ago, as a prayer to You. It is my prayer, too:

I want to be closer to You
To be a delight in Your eyes
My greatest desire is to humbly obey
And to worship, worship You.

Brother Brian
