Word for Today, Mon, 04 Jun 2001: Balance

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

I am grateful, not only for the love of God, shown most clearly
to me by the love of Jesus Christ, His sacrifice for you and me,
but also by the Word, which provides numerous examples of how
Jesus maintained a perfect balance in His life. I confess, to
you and to Him, that balance, especially perfect balance, is not
something that comes naturally for me. It takes thought and
effort. I am so grateful that Christ Himself provides so many
good examples for me. I am also grateful that others, who have
gone before me, have also exhibited good examples.

How about you? Are there people you know who provide good
examples for you? Do you consider the examples that Jesus
Himself provides, and use them as personal examples?

The message that follows tells of one example that Jesus gives
for us for balancing our lives. The prayer and meditation offer
examples of how we can use scripture as a basis for our own
prayers. I pray that each of us will be able to find ways to use
the words of scripture to give us examples of how to find balance
in our lives, and that we can also use scripture as a benchmark
from which we can measure other ourselves. I encourage you to
use the Bible as your primary means of finding examples and
balance in your life. It makes a difference in my life, and I
pray that God can use His Word to bring balance and purpose in
your life as well.

Brother Brian

BIBLE READING

John 2

OVERVIEW
Jesus attends the wedding at Cana and cleanses the temple
in Jerusalem.

INSIGHT
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Even Jesus
found time for diversion and relaxation. We read of His
going off alone at timesas well as going off with His
disciples at other timesfor solitude and rest.

In today's Scripture selection, He accepts an invitation
to a wedding a time of celebration and joy. Surely then,
celebration, recreation, solitude, and restin proper
measure and quality are parts of a balanced life.

PRAYER

* Praise God that as Creator of the
universe He set aside a special day for rest and
reflection:

O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and give praise, even with my
glory.
Awake, lute and harp!
I will awaken the dawn.
I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples,
And I will sing praises to You among the
nations.
For Your mercy is great above the heavens,
And Your truth reaches to the clouds.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens,
And Your glory above all the earth;
That your beloved may be delivered
(Psalm 108:1-6).

* Now pray this confession to the Lord to keep your
life free from sin and in
fellowship with Him:

If I sin, I have an Advocate with You, Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous. And You Yourself are the
propitiation for my sins, and not for mine only but
also for the whole world (based on 1 John 2:1-2).

* Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your
mind. As you agree with God's will, voice your
affirmation of His Word:

We who have Your commandments and keep them, it is we
who love You. And we who love You will be loved by
You, Father, and You will love us and manifest
Yourself to us (based on John 14:21).

* As you make your requests known to the Lord, pray
for:

a balance between work and rest,
greater wisdom with your finances,
the needs of your pastor and his
family.

* End with this prayer of praise to the Lord:

"Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom,
Thanksgiving and honor and power and
might,
Be to You, our God, forever and ever.
Amen" (Revelation 7:12)
