Word for Today , Mon, 13 Nov 2000: Work and Humor, do they both have a place?

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

I have often told the longtime readers of Word for Today that
Larry Davies has a good sense of humor. Well, this Web page link
that Larry supplies shows that at least some pastors have a good
sense of humor (I know of several who DO, and Larry is certainly
among them). Try out the link just for fun.

The message from the Quiet Walk is a good one, too. It is a
reminder to put our work into the proper perspective. I
encourage you to read the scriptures and pray as you begin a new
week. As God to supply you with energy to meet the challenges
that face you this week, to go ahead of each one of us, and
direct us in the ways that we should go.

Ok... I admit it. This one really made me laugh so I'm sending
it out. Enjoy. With all that's going on I think we need a good
laugh. By the way... Does anyone have any extra ballots? God
bless.

BIBLE READING
2Thessalonians 3:6-12

OVERVIEW

Work enables you to support yourself.

INSIGHT

A second reason why your work has importancein addition
to the fact that it serves othersis that it meets your
personal needs. If you have ever been out of work, you
know how terribly important it is for a person who should
be working to actually have a place to go to work. It
meets a very important emotional need. In addition, work
meets your material and physical needs. Even a routine
job can provide the money for your food, clothing, and
shelter.

PRAYER

* We are made in the image of God and therefore we praise Him
for the meaning that work can bring to us:

"My soul magnifies the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced
in God my Savior. . . . You who are mighty have done
great things for me, And holy is Your name. And Your
mercy is on those who fear You From generation to
generation" (Based on Luke1:46-47, 49-50).

* Pause for praise and thanks. Now pray this confession to the
Lord as you seek to keep your life free from sin and in
fellowship with Him:

Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me,
bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And
forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your
iniquities (Psalm 103:1-3).

* Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your mind. As
you agree with God's will, voice your affirmation of His
Word:

"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may
have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but
be of good cheer, I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).

* As you make your requests known to the Lord, pray for:

* the renewing of your mind,

* needs of your extended family,

* relief workers in refugee camps,

* joy in your daily activities.

* Now offer this closing prayer to the Lord:

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and
Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting
consolation and good hope by grace, comfort our hearts
and establish us in every good word and work (Based
on2thessalonians2:16-17).
