Word for Today, Mon, 14 May 2001: What Does it Take to Comprehend?

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

I am so grateful for my family and for my children. Though it is
difficult to raise young children - I have three, ages 6, 2, and
almost 7 months - God has been teaching me ever deeper lessens
about who He is and who I am, through my own children and the
events we go through.

In my house, it is not only the two year old who has difficulty
grasping the reasons behind the father's actions - it is probably
all of us (sometimes, myself included)! 😉 As I continually
learn and grow with my family, learning as they learn, getting
frustrated at times, yet deeply loving each one, I catch glimpses
of God's love for you and me. My love, though deep, is finite -
it has its limits because I, as a fallable person, have my
limits. But when I think about His love, the love that is deeper
than the deepest ocean, wider than the widest horizon, purer than
the purest stream and more refined than gold, I get some hints
about God and my relationship with Him.

If you do not have children, you may only have an idea what I am
talking about. If you do not have a personal relationship with
God, you are probably wondering what I am babbling about! My
friends, a personal relationship with God is all about grasping
the purpose of our existence, and about dealing with people every
day, learning more and more about the nature of God's love for
people, and how He wants us to love one another.

My prayer for you (and me) as we begin another busy week of
activities is to grasp even a hint of how "high and long and wide
and deep" the love of God really is (see the aposle Paul's prayer
to the church at Ephesus, Ephesians 3:14-21). You can find it

BIBLE READING

Luke 11:1-28

OVERVIEW
Jesus teaches His disciples about prayer. Then He rebukes
the Pharisees for blasphemy.

INSIGHT
A two-year-old child simply does not have the mental
capacity to comprehend all of the reasonings behind his
father's actions. His mind is too limited to grasp them.
He must just learn to trust, and after he matures, he
will understand.

The same is true of us and our heavenly Father. We simply
cannot comprehend all of the reasonings behind His
actions. We must learn to trust, believing that one day
we will understand. Earthly fathers and our heavenly
Father grant good gifts which are not always understood (Luke
11:13).

PRAYER

* Praise the Lord for the excellence of His wisdom.
Thank Him that one day we too will fully understand
His plan for creation and for each of us
individually:

Tremble before Him, all the earth.
The world also is firmly established.
It shall not be moved.
Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be
glad;
And let them say among the nations,
"The Lord reigns."...
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever...
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel
From everlasting to everlasting!
(1 Chronicles 16:30-31,34,36).

* Now pray this confession to the Lord to keep your
life in fellowship with Him:

You have blotted out, like a thick cloud, my
transgressions,
And like a cloud, my sins.
I return to You, for You have redeemed me
(based on Isaiah 44:22).

* Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your
mind. As you agree with God's will, voice your
affirmation of His Word:

If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My
love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments
and abide in His love (John 15:10).

* As you make your requests known to the Lord, pray
for:

your family and those closest to you,
spiritual victory over temptation,
protection against New Age
influences.

* Now offer this prayer of worship to the Lord:

May we with one mind and one mouth
glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (based
on Romans 15:6
