Word for Today, Mon, 18 Nov 2002: Important Words of Truth

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

As we begin another work week, I'd like to share with you a
devotional resource that I haven't shared before, (though I've
certainly pointed to the parent Web site,
http://www.gospelcom.net before). This resource is called Daily
Strength, and it consists of three or four short verses of
scripture each day that help us to think about specific biblical
truths.

As I've mentioned on many occasions before, these resources are
not ends in themselves, but tools we can use to cultivate good
bible reading habits and help us to get more familiar with what
the Bible says. It is my prayer that each person who reads these
messages will develop a personal time of Bible reading, prayer,
and devotion.

Today's message comes from
http://www.gospelcom.net/asgm/daily_strength.php3 and it contains
these verses of scripture:

Daily Strength
for Day 18

O God... do not cast me from your presence. Psalm 51:10-11

The Lord Jesus Christ said, "Come to me, all you who are weary
and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

Whoever comes to me I will never drive away. John 6:37

I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry,
and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35

Note that these verses contain a prayer (from King David), asking
God not to cast him away, even though he had committed a rather
grave offense - taking another man's wife and having that man
killed. Pretty serious stuff - yet forgiveable in God's eyes -
that is, when David confessed the offense and sought forgiveness.

In the second verse, Jesus urges those who are weary (isn't that
most of us at one time or another?) to come to Him, and He will
provide rest. What a great promise!

Then Jesus says that if you do come to Him, He will never drive
you away! Finally, if you come to Christ, you will never grow
hungry or thirsty. I believe that is both a physical and
spiritual truth, and it comes directly from scripture.

Do you ever read scripture, looking for important words of truth?

This is a great time to do so, and to establish your own regular
habits. God will bless you as you earnestly seek Him, and He
will never turn away from you, even if you've done something
horrible. But don't take God's Word lightly, and don't view
these promises as a license to deliberately do what's wrong, and
come crawling back only when you have no other options. We all
have our shortcomings, and we fall short without being deliberate
about it.

Confess your need of the Lord today, ask Him to cleanse and
purify you from the ugly secrets in your life, and let Him give
you newness of life. He can and will do it, and He will restore
to you the joy of the salvation that comes only from Him.

Have a great week!

Your Brother in Christ,
Brian
