Word for Today, Mon, 19 Aug 2002: Heeding the Signs Clearly in the Word

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

My friends, as I think about my own spiritual journey, my hurry
through life, the struggles I've faced, the choices I've
made... I think about how often I've really read the signs and
heeded them. I probably even know what's in the Word of God as
well as most people do, but how often do I heed its message, and
how often do I simply exceed its limits or ignore what it says,
thinking that somehow it doesn't apply to me?

Well, I'd like to think that I don't do that, or not often, but I
have to make my own assessment of that privately with God - and
quite possibly confess and repent on many counts.

I write these messages and send them out as an encouragement to
others. At the same time, I often write things that I know that
I need myself and/or things that I know that other friends and
acquaintances, plus many whom I really don't even know, may need
to think about too. So I encourage all of you to read today's
message below from Kevin Corbin and think about what he's
saying. I certainly am weighing his words and examining myself.

Have you had your own private appointment with your Savior today?

Dear Lord,

Please place upon my heart the things in Your Word that I've
failed to read and apply in my own life. I love You, not only as
my Master, Creator, Savior, and King, but as the One who has made
Himself intimately known. How un thoughtful and downright
disrespectful I can be by brushing off Your loving counsel.
Please help me to search my own heart and search Your Word and
pay careful attention to what You have placed there for me
today. Help me to accept what signs and directions You've given
in Your Word for me, and clear my mind, that I may see clearly,
perhaps some areas in my life that I've conveniently ignored.

Forgive me for making light of Your Goodness. Renew my mind,
that I may be changed and renewed. Amen.

Your Brother in Christ,
Brian

Signs

Yesterday the highway was busy. I must have been the slowest
vehicle on the road.

Vehicles went by me like I was parked. I was beginning to think
of the posted signs being speed suggestions not speed limits.

At one point, next to a no passing zone sign, clearly marked with
solid yellow lines, a car zipped out and passed a pickup truck
ahead of me. There is no way he could have missed the signs,
the driver simply seemed to think it didn't apply to him.

I wonder how often we go to God and ask Him to reveal His will
for us, while at the same time ignoring what He has already told
us. "Just give me a sign God. Just a hint."

Most of the time, not hearing from God is not due to a lack of
messages from Him. It is that we have either been preoccupied
with other things, or we think that what He has shown us somehow
doesn't apply.

Think about it, if you were instructing someone and they hadn't
paid any attention to what you had already told them and shown
them how anxious would you be to tell or show them more?

We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have
heard, so that we do not drift away. For if the message spoken
by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience
received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore
such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first
announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard
him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various
miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to
his will. Hebrews 2:1-4 NIV

God is good and He is faithful. Sometimes though, He simply
waits for us to do what we're supposed to before given us more or
revealing the whole picture. His Word does apply to us, not just
to others.

Until next time, may Holy Spirit work in your heart to clear the
debris of things left unheeded or undone. Be blessed.

Hallelu Yah

Kevin

If you haven't made the decision to accept Christ, or you don't
know what I man by accepting Jesus, email me and I'll share some
Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus
is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the
lines of:

God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not
proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you
came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my
sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive
me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen

If you pray this prayer for the first time let me know so I can
rejoice with you.

Did you know that at Gleanings, we have a dedicated team of
prayer warriors and all prayer concerns are kept strictly
confidential? Your comments, your questions and your joys are
