Word for Today, Mon, 21 Jan 2002: Prophesy and Faithfulness

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

The Bible is filled with great examples of faithfulness in
adversity, and how God has used faithfulness to accomplish his
purposes. In the case of Joseph, he was dumped by his brothers
into a cistern, then sold as a slave to some businessmen, who
later sold him as a servant to someone in Egypt.

God turned those events into one of the most powerful stories in
the history of Israel. Joseph's imprisonment, enslavement, and
other adventures, eventually led to his service in the palace of
the king of Egypt. Because of Joseph's patience and wisdom, he
was given the opportunity to serve the king. Because Joseph
sought God in the things he did, Joseph was able to wisely see
the needs in front of him, and he was given a vision by God to
save the entire region from famine.

Joseph's story is full of parallels with the life of Christ, so
it is useful to read about Joseph, not only in terms of his
response and his attitude toward God, but also in the prophetic
manner in which his stories point toward the salvation of all
people through the work of Christ - His birth, His ministry, His
teaching, His death, and His resurrection from the dead.

Today's message from Quiet Walk provides a prophesy of Christ's
triumph (the scripture in prayer from Psalm 145), faithfulness in
trial and tribulation (Joseph's story in Genesis 40), the
importance and result of that faith, (Romans 1), and everlasting
praise to God (brought out in 1 Timothy).

I pray that this message will encourage you today as you
personally seek to bring praise to God, live a life of faith,
demonstrated by acts of humble, grateful, thankful service, in
His Name. Amen.

Your Brother in Christ,
Brian

BIBLE READING

Genesis 40

OVERVIEW
Joseph is confined in prison.

INSIGHT
Joseph is one of the finest examples
in the Bible of faithfulness in the face of tribulation.
Wherever he was, Joseph lived for the glory of God. He
demonstrated that he could be trusted in the tough times,
thereby making himself eligible for God to use him in other
settings. Joseph was faithful over small things, so God was
able to set him over large things.

Most of our failures come with the small things. It rarely
occurs to us that the challenge of the moment is to
demonstrate ourselves faithful at that point. Then--
and only then--will we be trusted in the greater things.
Joseph is a good reminder.

PRAYER

* Faithfulness in praise is a part of our privilege as
servants of God:

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
And Your dominion endures throughout all
generations (Psalm 145:13).

* Now pray this confession to the Lord to keep your life
free from sin and in fellowship with Him:

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may
rejoice.
Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities
(Psalm 51:7-9).

* Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your
mind. As you agree with God's will, voice your
affirmation of His Word:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is
the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes,
for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the
righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as
it is written, "The just shall live by faith"
(Romans 1:16-17).

* As you make your requests known to the Lord, pray for:

deliverance from temptation,
laborers for His harvest,
the concerns of your heart.

* Now offer this prayer of worship to the Lord:

Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who
alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen
(1 Timothy 1:17).
