Word for Today, Mon, 28 Aug 2005: Pray With Power and Conviction
Dear friends,

We share scripture, examine ourselves, confess our personal sin,
and pray for forgiveness even before we pray for others. Always
remember what God has done for each of us and what Jesus Christ
has done, demonstrating in every way the love of God. Please
quietly pray before God, making your own heart right with Him,
then humbly pray for others.

Paul's Prayer for the Ephesians
14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is
named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His
glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the
inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;
that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to
comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and
depth and height-- 19 to know the love of Christ which passes
knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all
that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21
to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations,
forever and ever. Amen.
(Ephesians 3:14-21, New King James Version, NKJV)

I shared these verses with the Sowing Seeds of Faith Prayer Needs
mailing. I am currently the editor of a mailing list that goes
out three times a week, for the specific purpose of praying for
others. I have even been in the prayers of others several times.
We have people who are so despondent that they are ready to kill
themselves. A couple of times, people have actually ended their
lives, but many times, letters of encouragement have given people
hope, and they have turned to God, waited on Him, and given Him
a chance to work and move in their lives.

I have had to develop patience, but God has worked in incredible
ways in our lives. I continue to be amazed at every provision
that God brings our way to provide for us. I have had much difficulty
finding good work, but that finally seems to be changing. However,
because of the long time we have struggled, we now have vehicles that
are in need of work, and one that isn't working. God has provided
friends to help us, giving us rides, lending us their cars, and many
other things to help us. We have had numerous people praying for us,
and things just keep working out. Coincidence? NO WAY! God has been
in it all, and He gets all of the glory. I have even had people come
to me, even without mentioning anything to them. God just moved in them,
and they responded to Him in obedience.

There are many times when God wants me to do something. Many times I have
answered Him. However, I am sad to say that many times during the course
of my life, I have not answered Him. I have been disobedient to Him.

I am grateful that I serve a God of second chances, and even a God of
490 chances (and even more)!

I agree with God that I need His constant guidance.

How about you? Do you see a need for God in your life? Not just to
bail you out of today's problem or series of problems, but to be your
One confidant, to encourage you when no one else is there, to know you
like no other, to love you, even knowing your deep, dark secrets.

God is not a genie and He is not my genie. He is my Lord and master.
I want to serve Him. I want to say thanks to Him by my response and
my attitude, and also by my behavior.

Writing messages like this one are only a small sign of the love that
I have for my God. I give myself unreservedly to Him.

And you?

Yours in Christ,
Brian
