Word for Today, Mon, 29 Jan 2001: The Plan

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

>From the beginning of time, God has had a plan for His Creation.
His plan is a good and perfect one, for He is the Author and
Finisher of all things. Today's message weaves these thoughts
together, drawing from both Old and New Testament readings from
the Bible. Isn't it revealing to realize that all of the blood
sacrifice stuff, all of those rituals practiced in the Old
Testament times reveal that we simply cannot avenge the work of
our own hands? After all we do, it is the Grace of God that
determines that we are loved and accepted, not some lame act on
our part. Our role is to accept the gift of grace and respond to
God out of gratitude, returning to Him in full the love lavished
upon us.

Dear Lord,

I worship You today, knowing the price You have paid to avenge
the arrogance and even wickedness of my ways. I recognize the
extent You had to go to account for my sin and draw me back to
You. I humbly accept the gift You offer to me and to all who
acknowledge You.

Please strengthen our marriages, our families, and our
relationships today. Many of us realize that we have caused
hardships to those we love. Forgive us, teach us humility, that
we may be healed, so that we may bring peace to places we have
formerly brought war, patience to places we have sought our own
way, and love, that we may shine a new hope in places thought to
be lost in darkness. Lead our nation's leaders, that we may
experience justice and peace, and that every person may be given
equal opportunity, whether young or old, large or small, strong
or weak. Use us as Your instruments of peace in each of these
places, for Jesus' sake. Amen.

Brother Brian

BIBLE READING Exodus 12

OVERVIEW
By observing the Passover, the children of Israel escape the
plague of death.

INSIGHT
The Passover in the Old Testament is a picture of the atonement
that Jesus offers in the New Testament.

The passover lamb was sacrificed, and the blood was sprinkled on
the doorpost of the house. When the angel of death saw the
blood, he recognized it as a symbol of faith and passed over the
house without taking the life of the firstborn.

In the New Testament, Jesus is our Passover Lamb who was
sacrificed on the cross for our sins. When we accept Him as our
Savior, death passes us by.

PRAYER

* Our praise for the Lord is part of the richness of knowing
Him:

O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for
You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there
is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see
Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better
than life, My lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while
I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul shall be
satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise
You with joyful lips (Psalm 63:1-5).

* Pause and praise God for your salvation. Now pray this
confession to the Lord as you seek to keep your life in
fellowship with Him:

You will again have compassion on us, And will subdue our
iniquities. You will cast all our sins Into the depths of the
sea (Based on Micah 7:19).

* As you confess your sins to God, voice your commitment to
obey and honor His Word:

This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have
loved you (John 15:12).

* As you make your requests known to the Lord, pray for:

* greater love for others,

* the work of missions in the Middle East,

* today's activities.

* Close this time of worship by reflecting on His great
sacrifice of loveJesus' death on the cross:

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and
Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and
good hope by grace, comfort our hearts and establish us in every
good word and work (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17).
