Word for Today, Sat, 03 Sep 2005: Liturgical Readings for Sep. 3, 2005
Dear friends,

Now the holiday is upon us, and we have much for which we can give
thanks. Are you having a good weekend so far?

I keep harping on the subject of reading the Bible often,
preferably every single day, and when time permits, even at
various times throughout the day. The Bible is God breathed.
Though the words were written down by men, and though they have
been translated and at times modified, they still incredibly
convey the very thoughts of God as revealed to some 39 specific
men and women.

The 66 books of the Bible were chosen because they were found to
be consistent with one another and trusted sources. Since the
Bible was first "canonized", other manuscripts have been found.
The most godly scholars still believe that the original
manuscripts are the ones most trustworthy.

I pray that you all read your Bibles. From time to time, I
provide various different online resources that you may choose,
if you wish, as your Bible study tools or as a supplement.
Devotional tools, while useful, are not a substitute for the
Bible, however. The best they can be are tools that point us
back to the Bible, the authoritative Word of God.

Yours in Christ,
Brian

The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Colossians 1:21-29

21 And you, who were once alienated and enemies in your mind by
wicked works, even now hath He reconciled 22 in the body of His
flesh through death, to present you holy and unblamable and
unreprovable in His sight, 23 if ye continue grounded and settled
in the faith, and be not moved away from the hope of the Gospel,
which ye have heard and which was preached to every creature
under heaven, of which I, Paul, am made a minister.

24 I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which
is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh, for His
body's sake, which is the church, 25 of which I am made a
minister according to the dispensation of God, which is given to
me for you, to fulfill the Word of God-- 26 even the mystery
which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is
made manifest to His saints. 27 To them God would make known what
are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles,
which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28 Him we preach,
warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we
may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus, 29 for which I
also labor, striving according to His working, which worketh in
me mightily.

Psalm 54

1 Save me, O God, by Thy name,
and judge me by Thy strength.
2 Hear my prayer, O God;
give ear to the words of my mouth.
3 For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors
seek after my soul; they have not set God before them.

4 Behold, God is mine helper;
the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.
5 He shall reward evil unto mine enemies;
cut them off in Thy truth.

6 I will freely sacrifice unto Thee;
I will praise Thy name, O LORD, for it is good.
7 For He hath delivered me out of all trouble,
and mine eye hath seen my desire upon mine enemies.

Words of Worship - John 14:6b

"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man cometh unto
the Father, but by Me.

Luke 6:1-5

1 And it came to pass on the second Sabbath after the first, that
He went through the cornfields. And His disciples plucked the
ears of corn and, rubbing them in their hands, ate. 2 And certain
of the Pharisees said unto them, "Why do ye that which is not
lawful to do on the Sabbath days?" 3 And Jesus answering them
said,

"Have ye not read so much as this, what David did when he
himself hungered and they that were with him: 4 how he went
into the house of God, and took and ate the showbread and
gave also to them that were with him, which it is not lawful
to eat except for the priests alone?"

5 And He said unto them,

"The Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath."

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 25:27

It is not good to eat much honey;
so also for men to search after their own glory is not glory.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 18:21-22
(see UniversalJesusSpeaks.info for more information)

Then Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often shall my
brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?
"And Jesus said unto him, "I say not unto thee, until seven
times, but until seventy times seven.
