Word for Today, Sat, 24 Sep 2005: The Goodness of God's Glory
Dear friends,

There are many people right now who question the goodness of God,
especially since there have been so many recent natural
disasters, not only in the USA, but in Asia, with hurricanes,
Tsunami, earthquakes, not to mention poverty, war, famine, and
unrest. They say, "Where is God?" and "Why would a good god
permit things like these to happen?

Some of us face financial hardship, poor health, failing
relationships, and all kinds of other things that lead people to
ask these kinds of questions and place blame. They want an
explanation, and they just don't understand why things happen the
way they do.

Well, I cannot pretend to have the answers to any of these
questions, but I do believe in the goodness of God. The evil one
is behind the fallen nature of our world. It was not the
original intent that humankind would fall into its present state,
yet God did permit each of us to make our own choices, and each
one of us, at one time or another, has made choices that lead us
to places that are far from God.

Nevertheless, because of His goodness, God has provided a way of
escape - an escape from the foolishness of our ways, a plan to
save us from our sin. He sent His very own Son into the world
for the specific purpose of redeeming a people after His own
heart!

God did not spare His own Son from pain and suffering. He
deliberately sent Him to us to suffer the pain, humility, and
even death because of the sin of the world. But He didn't just
do it to punish, He did it to redeem those that He loves. God
wants an intimate, personal relationship with us, and He did it
at great cost, for Jesus Himself is God in the flesh!

Since God did not spare His own Son, but sent Him to us on our
behalf, how much more does He desire to draw people to Himself?
His love is great, His mercies are wonderful, and He is
altogether wonderful.

In spite of the difficulties of this world, the Spirit of God is
among us, ready to embrace and bring comfort to any and all who
will earnestly seek Him. He allows difficulties, desiring not
that we would seek to blame Him, but instead turn to Him for
comfort, guidance, and relief. When we acknowledge God and
praise Him, even when we do not understand, and even when we have
our doubts, then we exhibit belief and trust in Him. That brings
glory to His Name, and He is well pleased.

Will you be like so many others and try to blame God for
affliction, or will you choose to turn to God for His comfort and
lasting peace?

Yours in Christ,
Brian

The Goodness of God's Glory

by Dr. Larry Ollison, Ph.D.

"For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to
be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man."
(Ephesians 3:14-16)

There is a key to the glory of God that we so often miss. The key
is this. The glory of God is the goodness of God.

When Moses wanted to see the glory of God, God said, "I will make
all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of
the LORD before you" (Exodus 33:19). The scripture says that
Moses saw the goodness of God. Then later we read where Moses
says he saw the glory of God. That lets us know something. The
goodness of God is the glory of God.

All the good things that God has for you is in His glory. When a
king walks out in his kingly robe with his jewels and crown and
surrounded by his servants, people say, "Here comes the king in
all of his glory." What do they mean? They are referring to his
abundance.

The Hebrew word for glory is kabowd. The word kabowd means
weightiness; that which is substantial or heavy; glory; honor;
splendor; power; wealth; authority; magnificence; fame; dignity;
riches and excellency. The glory of God is goodness. What did
Moses see go by? He saw the glory of God go by. He saw God in
all of His goodness.

The devil is a liar. In John 8:44 Jesus said the devil is a
liar. He always has been and always will be. He has lied to the
church. If Satan can get you to believe his lie, he can destroy
God's work in you. Much of the church has believed that in order
to be holy, glorious and sanctified, we must be poor. We may not
say it like that, but that is the mentality that has been in many
people of the church.

That thought is not true! That thought is from the devil, who is
a liar! God wants to give you abundance. "Let them shout for
joy and be glad, Who favor my righteous cause; And let them say
continually, Let the LORD be magnified, Who has pleasure in the
prosperity of His servant." (Psalm 35:27)

When we think about the things that God has for us, we don't want
to limit God. It's time for no more limits. It's time to take
away the bondage that we have had.

God is the God who prospers us. He's not the one who makes you
poor. Satan is the one who makes you poor. Jesus says in John
10:10, "I have come that they may have life, and that they may
have it more abundantly." God is not the one who makes you sick.
He says in Psalm 103:3 "I am the Lord your God Who heals all your
diseases." He's not the one who beats you down. Jesus came to
heal the brokenhearted, to restore sight to the blind and to
preach the good news to the poor (Luke 4:18).

What is good news to somebody who is poor? It is that you don't
have to stay poor!

God is the God of abundance. He's the God of prosperity. Seek
first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and God will
impart His will for your life. Submit to Him and His plan. His
plan is abundance for you.
