Word for Today, Sun, 2 Oct 2000: Telling the Truth from a Lie

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

Have you ever thought something was true, only later, (sometimes much later)
come to realize
that, in reality, you were deceived and it was all a lie, perhaps concealed by
a few "elements
of truth"? Well, today's message is really a warning about the deceptiveness
of lies. Satan is
the author of lies. His lies sound so good sometimes that even good people
fall for them, finding
out much later that they were deceived. Have you ever fallen into that trap?
Be honest with
yourself. I can tell you quite honestly that I am deceived much more than I
would like to admit.

The Good News, for all who are willing to hear it, is that Jesus wants to
rescue us from the
deceiver. He knows how cunning the deceiver can be, and Jesus has born our
grief, that is,
He has taken the full penalty for our errors, our mistakes, our sins, willful
sins and unintentional
ones. There is only one requirement of us in that regard. We must be willing
to admit that we
have been wrong, and seek the forgiveness and pardon that He offers us, and
turn away from willful
sin.

To be certain, even the best of us falls short, even after receiving a full
revelation of who God is and
what He has done for us. But for those who will believe, we have one thing
that others do not - a full
and complete pardon for our disobedience, and peace with God, who is our
Creator, Sustainer, Lover,
Friend, and Lord.

There is only one other thing I would like to add to all of that. While God is
a most loving and gracious
God, slow to anger, ever patient, and abounding in all of these things, it is
extremely arrogant and
terrible of any of us to come to Him in any manner other than an extremely
humble manner. We may
freely approach God, because of what Jesus has done, but in order to receive
that pardon, we still have
to recognize our state, get "right" with Him, admit where we've been, and then,
I believe, God wants
to be near to us.

You see, though God IS love, and God loves us tremendously, He is a Holy,
altogether pure being.
We cannot even begin to approach Him unless the sacrifice of Christ (His own
blood) goes before us,
in effect, becoming our righteousness - for we have no righteousness of our own
- I sure don't. Yet
I DO rejoice in the righteousness of Jesus Christ, and it is completely in Him
that I may approach
God.

Dear God, I don't know if I have been clear in the things I have attempted to
say today. I love You
with all of my heart, and I desire to be near to You. Please cleanse my heart
before You. I also ask
that You watch over my family, and that You do the same for each of the readers
of this list. May each
one of us come before You and be found innocent, not because of our own deeds,
but because we acknowledge
what Jesus Christ has freely given. Amen.
