Word for Today, Thu, 11 Jul 2002: Love your neighbor as yourself

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

My friend Karen Weber sends out regular messages of
encouragement. Not all of her messages contain only Christian
text, but she generally includes scripture and prayer in her
messages.

Today, the message is one that describes true freedom and true
obedience to the Law of God. For additional reading and cross
reference material, you may also wish to look at Matthew 22:34-40
and Luke 10:25-27 for Jesus' interpretation of the Great
Commandment, Deuteronomy 6:5 for a description of the great
command to love God with all of our being, and Leviticus 19:18
for a command not to seek revenge, but instead love our neighbor
as ourself.

I believe the entire Bible is important and valid, but without an
accurate understanding, appreciation, and practice of the
principles mentioned in these passages, the value of the
wonderful scriptures in the rest of the Bible can be eroded
away. But with a proper appreciation of these principles, the
rest of the Bible, and even the extent of God's love for us,
becomes alive and vibrant!

Your Brother in Christ,
Brian

Verse: 13 For you have been called to live in freedom--not
freedom to satisfy your sinful nature, but freedom to serve one
another in love. 14 For the whole law can be summed up in this
one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Galatians 5:13-14
(New Living Translation, NLT)

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for calling me into the freedom to
serve my brothers and sisters in Christ in love. Amen.
