Word for Today, Thu, 20 Jan 2005: Control
Dear friends,

Today's devotional message comes from the Max Lucado's weekly
devotional series, which, in turn, is published as a courtesy by
Crosswalk.com and sent out by mailing list. In this message, Max
points out that regardless of what we may be feeling or
experiencing, God is still in control.

There really is no question about that fact. God created all
things, and He really is in control. Some of us forget that,
others of us don't even really believe that. But just because
someone tells us that 2+2=5 or that the sky is green doesn't make
either statement true. Just because our personal experience at
any given moment makes us wonder about God's Presence or whether
He cares does not, in any way, alter 2+2=4, nor does it alter
the very nature and character of God.

Dear God, thank you that my experience and the way I feel,
whether I am faithful or whether I doubt, whether I honor You or
whether I blaspheme Your Holy Name, You are still God, the very
essence of love and the One who knows all things. I am grateful
that You are always in control, and whether I see it or not, I
acknowledge Your ways. Thank you for Your patience with me. I
confess that I fall far short of Your ways. Forgive my
negligence in obediently following You. Correct me gently, yet
firmly, and steer me continually along Your path, that my life
may be pleasing to You and useful in service to You. I humbly
pray these things in Jesus' Name and for His sake. Amen.

Yours in Christ,
Brian

The Cure For Disappointment
by Max Lucado

We need to hear that God is still in control. We need to hear that
it's not over until he says so. We need to hear that life's mishaps
and tragedies are not a reason to bail out. They are simply a reason to
sit tight.

Corrie ten Boom used to say, "When the train goes through a tunnel and
the world gets dark, do you jump out? Of course not. You sit still and
trust the engineer to get you through."

Why did Jesus tell the story? So we'd know the engineer still controls
the train.

The way to deal with discouragement? The cure for disappointment? Go
back to the story. Read it again and again. Be reminded that you aren't
the first person to weep. And you aren't the first person to be helped.

Read the story and remember, their story is yours!
