Word for Today, Thu, 26 Aug 2004: Obedient Sacrifice From Our Friend

Dear friends,

Today's devotional message comes from Paul Davidson, a writer for
an Email newsletter entitled the Nazarene-Christians Digest. In
a message that Paul wrote on Tuesday, he reflected on the real
work of Christ. You may remember that yesterday we had a message
entitled "Obedience Sacrifice For Our Friend". That title is
altered today: "Obedient Sacrifice From Our Friend", for we can
call Jesus Christ both our friend and our Lord - He said so in
these words: " 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.
15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know
his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for
everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to
you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you
to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last. Then the Father will
give you whatever you ask in my name. 17 This is my command: Love
each other." (John 15:14-17, NIV).

Now read Paul's message and perhaps the depth of Christ's love
will become refreshingly clear.

Yours in Christ,

Brian

Subject: WORD

"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not
love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal."
(1 Corinthians 13:1)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every time I read this passage of scripture, I think of my Lord Jesus. I
know this passage is directed at how we should act toward others, but
all I can think about is how Jesus acted toward me. See the truth is I
may love you, but I probably would not die for you. Jesus allowed people
to kill Him in the most horrible way. Not only that, the Bible states
"for the joy set before Him, He scorned the shame of the cross". You and
I were His joy! He died for me and you, so that we might live a life
filled with the fullness of His joy. He has been patient with us and He
has been kind to us. He rejoices in the truths spoken into our lives and
all the other good things that love is. We have to share His love with
others so that they too can claim their inheritance. May He richly bless
you.

In Jesus' name...
