Word for Today, Tue, 16 Nov. 2004: All Things Are Possible
Dear friends,

Today's message comes from Phil Ware's Weekly Verses, which, in
turn, is created from a compilation of Phil's Heartlight Daily
Verse. Information on each of these resources is included in the
message below.

This week's collection has a theme of thankfulness, commitment,
prophecy, and light. It's all about Jesus, our Savior and risen
Lord, the One who has demonstrated God's love to us in so many
tangible ways: first He came to us - to earth - God with us, God
in the flesh. Then He demonstrated the right way to live. He
also exposed injustice (He was the first recorded true advocate
of women, by the way). As Jesus exposed the manner in which the
religious leaders were perverting the truth of God's spoken and
written Word, He was then threatened, chased, and of course,
ultimately killed. Those who believe in Christ and understand
what He did know that this was necessary, for Jesus Christ came
to earth to seek and save the lost. He had to die in our place,
for He is the only One, being God in the flesh, who lived a
blameless, sinless life. Therefore He is the only one who could
pay for, account for, and forgive our sins - all of them!

What wondrous love that is! If you are not really a Christian,
if you don't really understand all of this, may I encourage you
to actually read Phil's message, then, if you don't already own a
Bible, visit one of the many online resources where you can read
the Bible online? I often use bible.gospelcom.net/
ebible.org/bible/web/ and bible.crosswalk.com/.
Perhaps a day will come when you will personally come to know and
appreciate the God who created all things, realize that He deeply
loves you and actually desires a PERSONAL relationship with Him.
I am always most eager and willing to discuss any aspect of my
own faith at any time.

Yours in Christ,

Brian

MONDAY

Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the
nations what he has done.
--1 Chronicles 16:8
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE...
Giving thanks is more than being thankful to God, it is
letting others know of his gracious works so they too can come
to know him as Father, Redeemer, and Victorious Lord.

MY PRAYER...
Holy God, Almighty King, bless all those who serve you in
difficult places today. I especially am thankful for all the
missionaries in other cultures sharing the grace of Jesus with
people who need to know you as Abba Father. Empower their
words, protect their lives and families, and bless their
efforts with fruit. Please help me to understand that true
thankfulness involves sharing your grace with others. Through
Jesus I pray. Amen.

TUESDAY

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures
forever. Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures
forever.
--Psalm 136:1 and 26
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE...
Our thanks arises from the nature of God and his glory and
goodness. The steadfast reason we give thanks is because God
is good and his love is inexhaustible, beyond decay, and never
ending.

MY PRAYER...
O great Lover of my soul, thank you for sending Jesus as the
demonstration of your love. I love you Father. I love you for
who you are and what you have done. I love you for what you
have promised. I love you for the blessings you shower upon
me. I love you for giving me hope. I love you because you
first loved me. I love you because you are worthy of all love.
But I confess that my love is not as strong as yours, so
please, fill me with your love by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Through Jesus I lift my heart to you. Amen.

WEDNESDAY

The day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will
disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire,
and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since
everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people
ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives.
--2 Peter 3:10-11
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE...
Holiness is that forgotten character virtue that is the
Christian's reflection of God, his or her holy and righteous
Father. In a day of cheap grace, when anything goes just as
long as we want to be buddies with Jesus, Peter's words should
shock us into reverence - the commitment in life to set our
lives apart from the evil and sludge that defiles our hearts
and to offer our bodies, hearts, and minds to do his will and
reflect his character.

MY PRAYER...
Holy and Righteous Father, teach me to do your will and
reflect your character while offering your grace. May the
movements of my heart, the thoughts of my mind, and the actions
of my life be pleasing to you and reflect your holiness and
grace. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

THURSDAY

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and
the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. The Word
became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his
glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father,
full of grace and truth.
--John 1:1-2 and 14
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE...
All true ministry is "incarnational" - it involves people to
people contact, human touch, and genuine physical care. While
Heartlight is an Internet ministry, it will never live in
cyberspace. It must be carried into the daily life of
believers who are committed to share the grace of Jesus with
their FRANs (Friends, Relatives, Acquaintances, Neighbors).
Just as God purposely sent Jesus at the right time to the right
place, he did so with us. We are here to bless others, "not
just in word, but in deed and truth!"

MY PRAYER...
Glorious Father, thank you for putting me where I am. I
know I am here to do your work and carry on Jesus' ministry.
Help me seize the opportunities you give me today to bless
others in the name of Jesus. Through him I pray. Amen.

FRIDAY

In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets
at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he
has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all
things, and through whom he made the universe.
--Hebrews 1:1-2
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE...
God is a speaking God. He loves us and has chosen to get
his message to us in words. First there were the patriarchs
and great prophets. Then there was the written record in the
Scriptures. But God's greatest message, his most powerful
words, were not really words at all, but a person named Jesus
of Nazareth, who is Christ and Lord of all. For us, his
Church, to be what he wants us to be, we must not just look at
Scripture, we must also look at him. He is the key to
understanding what Scripture means and how it is to be lived.

MY PRAYER...
Holy Father, help me to see Jesus and his work and purpose
more clearly as I open your Book and seek to understand your
will. Fill me with your Spirit, so that I may greet each
decision awakened to the answer to "What would Jesus do?"
Through Jesus, my Lord and Savior I pray. Amen.

SATURDAY

Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me
will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be
thirsty."

--John 6:35
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE...
We crave food at regular intervals during the day. During
this holiday season food occupies our thoughts and fills up our
activities. But deep in our soul is a hunger, a soul hunger.
It cannot be filled by food, drink, or chemicals. This hunger
was the desire built into us by our Creator, placed there when
he knit us together in our mother's womb. This hunger can only
be satiated by Jesus.

MY PRAYER...
Please fill me, my Father, with Jesus. Give me today, my
Daily Bread, that I may find life in all its fullness.
Precious Lord, Jesus my brother and Savior, fill me and touch
me with your presence so that I can serve you by blessing those
around me with your grace. Amen.
~~~~~~~~~
SUNDAY
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said,"I am the light
of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life."
--John 8:12
New International Version
THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE...
Darkness is more than a symbol, it is a pervasive way of
living and viewing the world. Darkness is the place of
deception, evil, crime, predators, sin, and death. To follow
Jesus means to bring him our heart and let him cast everything
from the darkness that plagues us on the inside so we don't
have to be afraid of the darkness on the outside. In this way,
Jesus gives us light, but it is a light that does more than
fill a dark room. This is a light that illumines the heart.
MY PRAYER...
Holy God who lives in glorious and irrepressible light, I
praise you for sending Jesus to cast away the dark fears that
so easily envelope me. I pray for strength and courage to not
only live in the light, but show others their way to the light.
In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
