Word for Today, Tue, 22 Oct 2002: A Call - Is There a Response?

Dear friends,

I received a message today that contained a portion of the
scripture passage that I'm sharing with you below. When I saw
the passage, I realized how relevant this scripture is to some of
the recent topics that I've shared or passed along to you.

Today's scripture commands us to be clear in our thinking,
controlled in our actions, obedient to what God tells us, and
holy - which means to be set apart for the purpose for which God
intends.

In order to do all of that, we must know what God says. That's
where regular reading, meditating, and praying comes in. These
messages I send are NOT intended to be a source of teaching, they
are merely intended to cause you to think, and hopefully to
cultivate your own personal discipline of reading, praying,
studying, and meditating on God's Word.

I believe that once we really understand the Word, we can embrace
it, and it can transform our lives. God's Spirit is what enables
that to happen. God uses His Word to instruct us, and His Spirit
to give us understanding. My fervent prayer is that God will
personally touch and impact each one of us, call us His own, and
we will obediently respond to Him. I believe He IS calling. Are
you, by any chance, listening?

A Call to Holy Living

13 So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to
the special blessings that will come to you at the return of
Jesus Christ. 14 Obey God because you are his children. Don't
slip back into your old ways of doing evil; you didn't know any
better then. 15 But now you must be holy in everything you do,
just as God--who chose you to be his children--is holy. 16 For he
himself has said, "You must be holy because I am holy."[2] 17 And
remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no
favorites when he judges. He will judge or reward you according
to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during
your time as foreigners here on earth.
