Word for Today, Tue, 23 Apr 2002: A Differnt Way to Think - Renewing our Minds by God's Spirit

Dear friends,

I am consumed by the idea of continually renewing my mind. You see,
I've come to realize that my mind gets filled up with all kinds of
unwholesome things, some of which are of my own doing, many others of
which are the the product of my environment. I suspect it is the same
for most, if not all of us.

As I was driving around town yesterday, I happened to hear excerpts
from a Billy Graham message. Do you know which verse of scripture HE
mentioned during that short clip that I heard? None other than Romans
12:2. To use his words, "The Bible says", "1 Therefore, I urge you,
brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living
sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual[1] act of
worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able
to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect
will." (Romans 12:1-2).

Karen Weber, in her "Christian Thought for the Day" message, mentions
what I consider to be a closely related passage from my favorite
Epistle, the letter of the apostle Paul to the Philippians.

There is nothing complicated about either of these passages of
scripture. Therefore, I'd like to leave them with you today and pray
that God would take His Word and apply it in unique ways to each of
our hearts.

about such things. 9Whatever you have learned or received or heard

peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to replace my worries with thoughts of what
is noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable. Amen.
