Word for Today, Tue, 25 Dec 2001: Setting the Framework

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

I have taken a break to spend time with my family. I hope that
you have been able to do the same. For those of you without
family, remember that there is ALWAYS the family of God - take
care not to shield yourself from the company of others when
loneliness sets in - it will only compound the feeling - I know
that all too well from my own difficult times in the past.
Should you face loneliness in this season, feel free to contact
me and I would be glad to discuss some ways for dealing with it.

I'd like to share a message from the Christmas Day Quiet Walk
Devotional. It sets a good framework for our worship of Jesus
Christ during this season. I believe that a good understanding
of the Christian faith and why we even bother with it is a
crucial factor in dealing with our relationships, our feelings,
our attitudes, and our actions. That is why I send out
devotionals to a list that is primarily composed of individuals
seeking some kind of marriage or relationship information - well,
that's what this stuff is all about, but its applicability is
broad and suitable --- with prayer and consideration, to a wide
variety of situations.

That's what I find so amazing about the Word of God, too
- He knows us, and He knows precisely what we need.
So today's message sets a framework for cultivating our
relationship with God - and that relationship forms the basis of
everything else that we do. Therefore, let us quietly consider
these scriptures, and offer some time to God. Let's consider
what His Word says, let's offer our praises to Him, then let's
privately confess our position before Him, asking that He forgive
us for our selfish ways, return our praises to Him, and ask Him
to clarify within our minds the things that are already clearly
presented in His Word, then help us to establish an attitude of
grateful devotion, obedience, and praise.

Your Brother in Christ,
Brian

BIBLE READING

Revelation 15

OVERVIEW
The songs of God's praise are heard in heaven.

INSIGHT

On Christmas Day what better place to look than heaven!
Someday the battle will be over; someday the victory will
be won; someday the saints of the ages, who were the soldiers
of the war of God, will gather in His throne room and sing
His praises forever!

The wrath of God will be finished. Sin will be no more.
Unrighteousness will be in the past. Smiles will wreath our
faces, and songs of praise will fill the air. Along with all
of the hosts of heaven, we will sing the song of Moses:

Great and marvelous are Your works,
Lord God Almighty!
Just and true are Your ways,
O King of the saints!
Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify
Your name?
For You alone are holy.
For all nations shall come and worship
before You,
For Your judgments have been manifested
(Revelation 15:3-4).

PRAYER

* Praise the Lord who brought you the message of salvation:

All Your works shall praise You, O Lord,
And Your saints shall bless You.
They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom,
And talk of Your power,

To make known to the sons of men Your
mighty acts,
And the glorious majesty of Your kingdom
(based on Psalm 145:10-12).

* Now pray this confession to the Lord to keep your life
in fellowship with Him:

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does
not impute iniquity,
And in whose spirit there is no deceit
(Psalm 32:1-2).

* As you confess your sins, voice your affirmation of
God's Word:

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power
and of love and of a sound mind
(2 Timothy 1:7).

* As you make your requests known to the Lord, pray for:

* a stronger desire for Christ to livethrough you,
* churches across the nation,
* patience with family members.

* Close with this prayer of worship:

To Him who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of
kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality,...
to whom be honor and everlasting power.
Amen (based on 1 Timothy 6:15-16).
