Word for Today, Tue, 6 Nov 2001: Continual Communication

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

I think that it is of vital importance that we are in continual
communication with God, and that as we talk with God, we remember
each other's needs, and pray for one another. The apostle Paul
frequently provides us with good examples of this. In his letter
to the Ephesian church, he has two awesome prayers (located in
chapters one and three of the letters). Then, of course, there
is perhaps my favorite letter, the letter that Paul wrote to the
Philippians.

Paul writes with great joy and thankfulness. He is almost
overwhelmed with gratitude for finding a group of people who
share with him in his ministry. There is another group of people
who responded in this manner, the Thessalonian people. Paul
writes to them, too.

I'd like to share the Philippian passage with you today, and ask
that you read and absorb this passage. Think about the love of
God. Think about those who are close to you that you love, and
those you care about. Consider praying with and for them, as
Paul does in this letter.

The power and encouragement of sharing in the ministry of prayer
is a beautiful and wonderful thing. Imagine the God of the
universe wanting US to share in His work! Hey, the ALL POWERFUL
God doesn't NEED us for anything, yet He loves us and calls us to
be in a relationship with Him and share in His work. Isn't that
a wonderful part of the mysterious nature of our Glorious Lord?
May the Precious Name of Jesus be praised forever as we seek Him
in everything that we do, and bring honor to His Name out of acts
of humble praise and service to Him.

Your Brother in Christ,
Brian

3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers
for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your
partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being
confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will
carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. 7 It is
right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you
in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and
confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me.
8 God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of
Christ Jesus. 9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound
more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you
may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless
until the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of
righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and
praise of God.
