Word for Today, Wed, 04 Aug 2004: Those Who Hurt
Dear friends,

Today's message discusses our view of God. The correct way to
get a good view of God is to know His Son, Jesus Christ, and the
best way to do that is to read the Bible for yourself on a
regular, consistent basis.

The God of the Bible deeply cares about each one of us,
especially those who are hurting. Just read today's story, then
be sure to read the account of today's story in the Bible.

Yours in Christ,
Brian

Those Who Hurt
John 4:1-16

One of the main reasons we sometimes have a weak faith is our
faulty view of God. After all, He is so big, how could we ever
truly get an accurate portrait of what He looks like, how He
acts, and how He feels about us personally?

Let's think about what Jesus said. He told us that if we want to
know what God the Father is like, we must look toward the Son.
The Savior said, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father" (John
14:9). We can know the Father because we can know Jesus.

And when we take a look at the way Jesus treated the people
around Him, we get a good picture of God's love. Consider the
woman at the well in today's Scripture passage. This was a woman
who had been outcast by society. The fact that she came to the
well at that particular time of day-a time when no one else was
around-shows that her exclusion from the townspeople was not just
their idea; she herself felt the need to stay isolated.

But what did Jesus do? He loved her. He accepted her. He gave her
what no one else would give: respect and attention. That is what
He does for us as well. God does not want us burdened by guilt,
shame, and heartache. Nor does He want us to be secluded from
other people. Instead, He calls us to be an active participant in
His kingdom. Have you cut yourself off from those around you?
Take hold of your Savior's hand today, and experience the joy of
His acceptance.
