Word for Today, Wed, 1 Nov 2000: Understanding the Purpose of Change

The majority of you are undoubtedly aware that change is a part
of life, and that as change occurs, some of it seems to be good
and other change seems bad. Did you realize (or have you
considered) that every change that we face, everything that we go
through, is something that God is aware of?
For some of you, that may be troubling. You may think, "If that
is the case, then why would God allow ..." That is one of the
most common reasons why people become angry, discouraged, or
disillusioned about God.
But did you know that God works in every situation to accomplish
His own purpose, and that God's will prevails? People do things
to one another, and events certainly do happen that are not good.
Yet even in the worst possible situations, God is aware of them.
My challenge to each of you today is to seek God, right now. If
there is something that troubles you, bring it up, quietly and
personally before God. My belief is that while God is completely
Holy and pure, and He desires to be honored and loved, I also
believe that He is an approachable God, one who earnestly seeks
to have a close relationship with each one of us. Will you honor
Him today by seeking Him? Will you talk with Him about your own
joys, or about things that are bothering you? Will you recognize
Him, not as someone seeking to punish or destroy you, but rather
as the One who created you, and the only One capable of
understanding and meeting your deepest needs?
Dear Lord, I confess my personal need of You, and ask You to be
with me throughout the day. Please be near each one of us.
Demonstrate Your love to each of us today, and help each of us to
see and recognize the love which You have lavished upon us, for
Jesus' sake. Amen.

Even when change is elective, it will disorient
you. You may go through anxiety. You will miss
aspects of your former life. It doesn't matter.
The trick is to know in advance of making any
big change that you're going to be thrown off
your feet by it. So you prepare for this
inevitable disorientation and steady yourself
to get through it. Then you take the challenge,
make the change, and achieve your dream.
