Word for Today, Wed, 27 Sep 2000: Giving Proper Credit

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

Hmm, I'm allowed to send up to 52 of these messages to you this
year. If I keep up at this pace, I will run out of that
allowance. I really think Bob Gass is right on with many of his
messages, which is why I have recently shared so many of them
with you. In today's message, Bob streses the importance of
honesty, humility, consideration, and in all things, recognize
their source, the living and Holy God, who made us, and still
sustains us.

When I stop thinking about the goodness of God, I find it easy to
get discouraged. There are plenty of struggles I face, and
people around me are struggling, too. If I focus only on those
things, I do, indeed get discouraged.

God wants me (and you, too) to come to Him in all things, and for
all things. It gives God pleasure to serve us, especially when
we recognize His good and perfect gifts, and return to Him the
honor that He deserves.

So if you are facing something today, whether in a relationship,
or just in the daily grind, please remember God. Think about His
love, His generosity, and all of His attributes, knowing that He
knows us better than we know ourselves. Then ask Him to meet
your personal needs, and then trust Him to do it. You will not
be disappointed with the end result, though it is likely to be
something other than what you might first expect.

Dear Lord,

I continue to pray for those seeking encouragement today. Please
hear their prayers. Please cleanse our country, from deep
within, that we may yet give our allegiance back to You, where it
belongs. Amen.

Brother Brian

WORD FOR TODAY with Bob Gass - Wednesday 27th September 2000

A timely warning

"...THOUGH YOUR RICHES INCREASE, DO NOT SET YOUR HEART ON THEM."

PSALMS 62:10

Settle it once and for all: if God can trust you with it, He'll
bless you materially as well as spiritually (2 Cor 9:6-11
NIV). But with His blessings come conditions; here are four that
you need to honour:

1. Don't claim the credit! Listen: "You may say to yourself
. . . 'My hands have produced this wealth for me.' But remember
the LORD your God, for it is He Who gives you the ability to
produce wealth... If you ever forget [that]... you will surely be
destroyed." (Deut 8:17-19 NIV)

2. Don't forget others! Listen, "Command those who are rich in
this present world... to put their hope in God, Who richly
provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to
do good, to be rich in good deeds and to be generous and willing
to share. In this way, they will lay up treasure for
themselves..." (1Tim 6:17-19 NIV).

3. Don't get arrogant. Listen, "Let not the wise man boast of
his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich
man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast about this:
that he understands and knows Me..." (Jer 9:23-24 NIV).

4. Don't allow anything to take God's place! Listen; "...give me
neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.
Otherwise, I may have too much and disown You and say, 'Who is
the LORD?'" (Prov 30:8-9 NIV). Remember that you don't own
anything - you're just the administrator of His estate and the
executor of His will. So today, make sure you do a good job with
them!
