Word for Today, Weekend Edition: Being Accountable

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

I just read this scripture on the Gospel Communications Network,
using the New Living Translation. I was struck by how familar
these words sound to the daily situations around us right now.
That may or may not indicate anything about "The Last Days", for
the scripture always says that "no one knows the time or the
day". Therefore, we should always equip ourselves, being ready
to give an account for our lives. This is a sobering account,
not the usual "feel good" stuff that we often see. You know that
I generally try to encourage people with the things that I write.
But it would be unwise not to read and take heed of ALL
scripture, not just the stuff that makes us feel good.
Therefore, these words are a caution to all of us - not to stir
up a panic, but instead to urge us to consistently seek God for
direction in all that we do, forgiveness for the times that we
fail, and a firm resolve to avoid the perils mentioned in this
warning that the apostle Paul gave to his young partner Timothy.

I urge you to consider these words and seek God today, while He
may be found. Call upon Him, while He is near. For He certainly
hears the prayers of those who are humble, recognize their need,
and earnestly seek Him. I'm seeking Him NOW. Won't you join me?

Your Brother in Christ,
Brian

2 Timothy 3

The Dangers of the Last Days

1 You should also know this, Timothy, that in the last days there
will be very difficult times. 2 For people will love only
themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud,
scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful.
They will consider nothing sacred. 3 They will be unloving and
unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control;
they will be cruel and have no interest in what is good. 4 They
will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride,
and love pleasure rather than God. 5 They will act as if they
are religious, but they will reject the power that could make
them godly. You must stay away from people like that.

6 They are the kind who work their way into people's homes and
win the confidence of[1] vulnerable women who are burdened with
the guilt of sin and controlled by many desires. 7 Such women
are forever following new teachings, but they never understand
the truth. 8 And these teachers fight the truth just as Jannes
and Jambres fought against Moses. Their minds are depraved, and
their faith is counterfeit. 9 But they won't get away with this
for long. Someday everyone will recognize what fools they are,
just as happened with Jannes and Jambres.

3:6 Greek and take captive.
