Repent meansÉ

The Bible says, ‘Repent or perish’ (Luke 13:5). If we must repent so we do not perish, what does it mean to repent? To repent we must:

¥ Change, turn around or turn again (Luke 22:32).

¥ Bear fruit for God by doing good works (Rom. 7:4; Col. 1:10; Matt. 5:16).

¥ Do Christ’s works (Rev. 2:26).

¥ Turn to the Lord (2 Cor. 3:16).

¥ Put our hands to the plow and don’t turn back to our old ways (Luke 9:62).

¥ Live to the Spirit (Gal. 5:16-25; Rom. 8:13).

¥ Enter God’s rest (Heb. 4:10).

¥ Do well or do right (Gen. 4:7).

¥ Keep the sayings of Jesus Christ (John 8:51).

¥ Do the Will of God (Matt. 7:21).

¥ Obey God’s words and commandments and obey those in authority over us (John 3:36; 1 John 3:3-6; Rom. 13:1-3).

¥ Be like little children in our attitude of obedience, saying, ‘Yes, Father,’ and receive the kingdom (Luke 18:16).

¥ Practice righteousness (Ezek. 33:16; Matt. 6:1; 1 John 3:29).

¥ Practice charity by sharing, giving, caring, loving and being kind (Acts 9:36).

¥ Believe (John 3:16; 11:26).

¥ Bear fruit (Matt. 3:10; John 15:5, 8, 14, 16).

¥ Overcome (Rev. 2:7, 11, 17, 26; 3:5, 12, 21; 21:7).

¥ Overcome evil by doing good (Rom. 12:21).

¥ Depart from or turn away from evil by doing good (Psalm 37:27).

¥ Have faith (Matt. 21:21-22; Mark 11:22; Luke 7:50; Gal. 3:26; Heb. 11:6; James 2:17, 22, 24, 26).

¥ Be a sheep (Matt. 25:33-46).

¥ Wash our robes (Rev. 7:13-14; 22:14; 19:8).

¥ Break away from our sins by doing what is right (Dan. 4:27).

¥ Make all our ways straight.

¥ Do only that which is pleasing in God’s sight, which is doing God’s Will on this earth (Matt. 7:21; 6:10; 1 John 2:17).

¥ Walk in the Way of righteousness.

¥ Practice integrity.

¥ Confess our faults.

¥ Strive and force ourselves to enter the kingdom of God (Luke 17:21).

¥ Love the Lord with all our heart.

¥Persevere and endure (James 1:3-4; Rom. 2:7; Eph. 6:18; Rev. 14:12).

¥ Give up our possessions (don’t be attached to them) but instead, place our priorities on spiritual things (Luke 12:15, 33-34; 14:33; 1 Cor. 13:3; Matt. 6:20; 1 Tim. 6:18-19).

¥ Serve others, help the poor, clothe the naked, visit the sick, feed the hungry, offer a place to stay to those who need it, visit prisoners and the lonely, help the elderly, orphans, lame, blind, lowly, our parents, children relatives and neighbors (Matt. 25:33-40; Job 29:12-16; Luke 3:10-11).

¥ Pray for others (1 Tim. 2:1-3).

¥ Be righteous (Mal. 3:18).

¥ Be happy slaves of righteousness or bond-servants (Rom. 6:12, 18-19).

¥ Live to glorify God (Luke 20:38; Matt. 5:16).

¥ Be rich toward God (Luke 12:21; 1 Tim. 6:18).

¥ Be mighty in deed and word in the sight of God (Luke 24:19).

¥ Clothe ourselves with Christ (Gal. 3:27).
