In response to the question “Is God’s Word more reliable than man’s?”
There was a map-maker back in the 1400’s who firmly believed in what God had revealed to him. He shared his belief with many, but alas, the people laughed in his face, mocked him in the streets and scorned him in the market place. Who could believe such a thing? The world round? As a sphere?
He remained steadfast in his faith, however, and went before the king, John II of Portugal, and boldly asked for a sailing vessel which to explore with. The ‘royal commission of scholars’, after studying his proposal by the king’s order, reported to the king that this mapmaker’ s “scheme” was preposterous.
Not giving up on what he believed to be true he sent a messenger (his brother, Bartolomeo) to Henry VII of England. The ‘royal scholars’ there declared him to be ‘foolish’ and ‘mad’. The king joined in on their mocking and laughed him to scorn.
His last hope rested with Ferninand and Isabelle of Spain. They, as the other royal monarchs turned it over to their experts, men learned in all the sciences, math, astronomy, philosophy, etc. The scholars studied his proposal, of the earth being round, and as their fellow scientists and such, reported to the king that it ‘rested on a “weak foundation”‘ and was ‘utterly impossible to any educated person’ to believe such foolishness. (Now remember – only the most learned and skilled of men could stand before a king and give advice; these men from Portugal, England, and Spain were the best in the world.)
When the map-maker would walk the streets all the people – wealthy or poor, from the greatest in reputation to the common serf – would mock him. One would say: “Ah, here comes our vagabond woole carder again; with his pathetic prattling about spheres and parallels. Tell us, Cristoforo, does the world appear any rounder to you today?” Then they would all laugh and scorn him cruelly.
His heart deeply wounded he retired to his only physical refuge, the church. There he gave himself over to prayer and fasting. He shared with the minister what the Lord had shown him. The minister was one of the few people in the entire world who believed him, and sent a messenger to the royal family interceding on his behalf. He stated to the royal king and queen that he believed God had his hand on him (that is to say that he was not mad – not insane), and further stated that he believed it was God’s will for him to go out and explore the seas.
Finally, after so many years of rude remarks and very cruel mockings, permission was granted and funds supplied, the ships were purchased and supplies were loaded for the voyage.
He barely managed to find a crew to go on this ‘hair-brained’ idea of his. Off they sailed into the deep blue sea, day after day, mile after mile. The crew became increasingly edgy and began to whisper about mutiny. (The sailors had never been more than 300 miles away from shore, and here they were over 3000 miles. It must of been very hard for them.) The crew conspired and made ready for a mutiny; they feared falling off the edge of the earth greatly, which is understandable as at that time men were taught in schools, in books and by word of mouth that the earth was definitely flat. He managed to console the crew and gained one or two more days from them. The next day a reed was spotted, that brought a much needed hope and fear was somewhat lessened. Then a sharpeyed sailor spotted a piece of driftwood, fashioned by a human! Early in the morning (2 am) the cry went out ‘Land Ahoy!’ and this poor despised map-maker, whom all men in the world rejected as thinking him a lunatic, is now considered to be one of the greatest men the world has ever known and is written of in all history books in the world. How did this Messianic Jew know of a certainty when all the experts word to the royal monarchs was, in perfect unison, ‘He’s mad!’?
“It is he that sitteth upon the circle (sphere or globe) of the earth;” Isaiah 40:22. (See also Proverbs 8:27, [8:26-29]; and the such.)
You see Christopher Columbus read the Scriptures, studying them daily. He believed God’s Word to be perfectly correct and man’s to be incorrect. In this world there is nothing more absolute than God’s Word. He placed his faith in the Bible and his trust in the Lord, staking not only his reputation on the inerrancy of the Bible, but his very life as well as the lives of all the men on all three ships (about 90 men). Yes my friend, as it is written – God is true, and every man a liar (Romans 3:4). The Bible is concrete; we need not understand that the world is round, as a sphere, only believe.
He prayed daily and made intercession before God on behalf of his crew, who were ready to throw him to the sharks. The Lord heard and kept the path of His little adventurer, the map-maker.
And so, you see, one must be careful with the words of their mouth when they speak of the Holy Creator and His Word, for He is no respecter of persons, especially those who would justify man and condemn a righteous God. He will search out the matter and, as those men, prove them liars. Yes he will exonerate Himself gloriously.
Now let us look briefly into the holy structure of the Holy Scriptures, which is perfect mathematically. In the Hebrew “circle” (gvch, Isaiah 40:22) = 17 N v and 17 P v which is 34 S v (34=2×17). 17 signifies “the Perfect One”.
The Lord did not make a mistake when He created the world, nor did He in His Word. Earth (tzrah, Genesis 1:1) = 296 N v and 44 P v which is 340 S v (340=4x5x17). First notice the unmistakable relationship of these two words. They are both multiples of 17 and 2. Earth is a multiple of 10 (34×10=340). The numeral 10 signifies divine perfect order, (also divine ordination). The make up of “tzrah” is: 4=creation; 5=grace; 17=the Perfect One. Thus we have “By the Divine Grace of the Perfect One is the earth created.” But 17 also signifies sacrifice, “chbz”. Could it be that the “Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” is the Perfect One? (Revelation 13:8.) (See also John 1:1.) I am not going to go into detail of the numerics and formulas of Scripture, but I can and do testify that the Holy Bible is the ONLY Book in the entire world that is mathematically perfect. This is a scientific FACT. (Not hypothesis or theory…but Law.)
It is impossible for any human being to write a paragraph of 300 words in either Hebrew or Greek or whatever and have every sentence, every word, and every letter form a math formula which is precise and perfect while maintaining grammatical structure in an intelletual form. (Example: If I were to say…”I have written this to you.” instead of…”I have written this for you.” the entire formula changes for the rest of this letter and one would never come to the same sum. It is changed forever.) The Bible has thousands of paragraphs which are consistently precise, and uniform the entire way through. Was this a perfect accident? Or the perfect design of an extremely intelligently being? The mathematical formula on which the all planets revolve around the sun, the moons around the planets, the comets around the universe, the exact same mathematical formula that is found only in the Bible. Chance or design? The mathematical formulas that make up your chromosomes, genetics, cell structure, and everything that is living has precisely the same mathematical formula that runs through the Bible. Accident by man? The inorganic material, rocks, metals etc., mathematical formulas are the same as the Bible’s. The sea and the dry land also. Scientific fact. It is quite evident that the overseeing author of the Holy Scriptures and the designer of the universe is one and the same. For both records bear His signature. FACT!
Now then, please explain to me why I should believe that man is more intelligent than God. How can man’s word be more reliable than the One who created him? Is your computer more intelligent than you? Are computers more intelligent than those who create them, than those who program them? Is your car able to transport itself to the gas station, fill itself up with high-test, go to the shopping center to purchase your needs, decide which shoes you need for this suit or that dress, then come home to communicate intelligently with you? Why? So neither can any man live without God knowing all, seeing all, understanding all.
I ask you my friend, come to know Him, turn from your unbelief, be washed in the Blood of the Passover Lamb. He loves you and will forgive you of every wrong. Only He has that much love for you. Becoming a Christian is not a mere intellectual decision, no. It is entering into a personal relationship with the One who created you. If you come to know Him you will come to know His love, His mercy, and He will give you a most precious gift. More precious than all the gold, silver and jewels of all the earth. That is His Holy Spirit. Precious!
Yes, we can say of a surety; God’s Word is more reliable than man’s.
….. John
Unto Thee we give thanks, O God, we give thanks; and Thy Name is near: Thy marvellous works declare it. Psalm 75:1
