Lourdes

LOURDES

BASIC R.C. BELIEF A village in France where, in 1858 (4 years after Pius IX had defined the Immaculate Conception), the Virgin Mary appeared to a peasant girl, Bernadette Soubirous, using the title, “the Immaculate Conception.” This was questioned for years by Church leaders and finally accepted. Bernadette became a nun and was canonized after she died. Many miracles are said to have taken place at Lourdes.
