Maundy Thursday

MAUNDY THURSDAY

BASIC R.C. BELIEF Maundy: Latin, command. It gets its name from the command to wash one another’s feet. The Pope, every year on Maundy Thursday, publicly washes the feet of 12 seminarians as a demonstration of his humility (John 13:14).

On Maundy Thursday, Holy Oil is blessed by the Bishops.

CHRISTIAN COMMENT A converted Roman Catholic told me that, in her parish, on Maundy Thursday, a Jewish Passover meal (Seder) was observed. It is possible that this was done for ecumenical purposes.
