GEN 21:12 But God said to him, “Do not be so distressed about the boy and your maidservant. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring + Or seed + will be reckoned.
13 I will make the son of the maidservant into a nation also, because he is your offspring.”
EXO 9:16 But I have raised you up + Or have spared you + for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.
33:19 And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
DEU 7:7 The LORD did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.
8 But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your forefathers that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
10:15 Yet the LORD set his affection on your forefathers and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations, as it is today.
32:8 When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when he divided all mankind, he set up boundaries for the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel. + Masoretic Text; Dead Sea Scrolls (see also Septuagint) sons of God +
JOS 11:20 For it was the LORD himself who hardened their hearts to wage war against Israel, so that he might destroy them totally, exterminating them without mercy, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
1SA 12:22 For the sake of his great name the LORD will not reject his people, because the LORD was pleased to make you his own.
1KI 12:15 So the king did not listen to the people, for this turn of events was from the LORD, to fulfill the word the LORD had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah the Shilonite.
20:42 He said to the king, “This is what the LORD says: ‘You have set free a man I had determined should die. + The Hebrew term refers to the irrevocable giving over of things or persons to the LORD, often by totally destroying them. + Therefore it is your life for his life, your people for his people.'”
2KI 19:25 “‘Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it. In days of old I planned it; now I have brought it to pass, that you have turned fortified cities into piles of stone.
2CH 6:6 But now I have chosen Jerusalem for my Name to be there, and I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.’
JOB 23:13 “But he stands alone, and who can oppose him? He does whatever he pleases.
14 He carries out his decree against me, and many such plans he still has in store.
PSA 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.
65:4 Blessed are those you choose and bring near to live in your courts! We are filled with the good things of your house, of your holy temple.
78:67 Then he rejected the tents of Joseph, he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim;
68 but he chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which he loved.
70 He chose David his servant and took him from the sheep pens;
71 from tending the sheep he brought him to be the shepherd of his people Jacob, of Israel his inheritance.
72 And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.
105:17 and he sent a man before them– Joseph, sold as a slave.
18 They bruised his feet with shackles, his neck was put in irons,
19 till what he foretold came to pass, till the word of the LORD proved him true.
20 The king sent and released him, the ruler of peoples set him free.
21 He made him master of his household, ruler over all he possessed,
22 to instruct his princes as he pleased and teach his elders wisdom.
135:4 For the LORD has chosen Jacob to be his own, Israel to be his treasured possession.
PRO 16:4 The LORD works out everything for his own ends– even the wicked for a day of disaster.
ISA 44:1 “But now listen, O Jacob, my servant, Israel, whom I have chosen.
2 This is what the LORD says–he who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you: Do not be afraid, O Jacob, my servant, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
7 Who then is like me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and lay out before me what has happened since I established my ancient people, and what is yet to come– yes, let him foretell what will come.
JER 1:4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew + Or chose + you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
MAL 1:2 “I have loved you,” says the LORD. “But you ask, ‘How have you loved us?’ “Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” the LORD says. “Yet I have loved Jacob,
3 but Esau I have hated, and I have turned his mountains into a wasteland and left his inheritance to the desert jackals.”
MAT 11:25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
26 Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.
20:16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
23 Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.”
24:22 If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.
40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left.
25:34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
MAR 13:20 If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them.
22 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect–if that were possible.
LUK 4:25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land.
26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon.
27 And there were many in Israel with leprosy + The Greek word was used for various diseases affecting the skin–not necessarily leprosy. + in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed–only Naaman the Syrian.”
8:10 He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, “‘though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.’ + Isaiah 6:9 +
10:20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
18:7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?
22:22 The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed, but woe to that man who betrays him.”
JOH 6:37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.
39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.
44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’ + Isaiah 54:13 + Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.
15:16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit–fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.
19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.
17:2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.
6 “I have revealed you + Greek your name; also in verse 26 + to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word.
9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.
21:23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”
ACT 1:7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.
2:23 This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, + Or of those not having the law (that is, Gentiles) + put him to death by nailing him to the cross.
39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off–for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
3:18 But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Christ + Or Messiah; also in verse 20 + would suffer.
4:28 They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.
13:48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.
17:26 From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.
22:14 “Then he said: ‘The God of our fathers has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth.
ROM 1:6 And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, + Some manuscripts And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God + who + Or works together with those who love him to bring about what is good–with those who + have been called according to his purpose.
29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.
9:11 Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad–in order that God’s purpose in election might stand:
12 not by works but by him who calls–she was told, “The older will serve the younger.” + Gen. 25:23 +
13 Just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.” + Mal. 1:2,3 +
14 What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all!
15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” + Exodus 33:19 +
16 It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.
17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” + Exodus 9:16 +
18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.
23 What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory–
24 even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?
27 Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved.
28 For the Lord will carry out his sentence on earth with speed and finality.” + Isaiah 10:22,23 +
29 It is just as Isaiah said previously: “Unless the Lord Almighty had left us descendants, we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah.” + Isaiah 1:9 +
11:5 So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.
7 What then? What Israel sought so earnestly it did not obtain, but the elect did. The others were hardened,
8 as it is written: “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes so that they could not see and ears so that they could not hear, to this very day.” + Deut. 29:4; Isaiah 29:10 +
1CO 1:26 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.
27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things–and the things that are not–to nullify the things that are,
29 so that no one may boast before him.
2:7 No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.
GAL 1:15 But when God, who set me apart from birth + Or from my mother’s womb + and called me by his grace, was pleased
EPH 1:4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love
5 he + Or sight in love. 5 He + predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will–
9 And he + Or us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he + made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,
10 to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment–to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.
11 In him we were also chosen, + Or were made heirs + having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,
2:10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
3:11 according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.
COL 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
1TH 1:4 For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you,
2:12 encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.
2TH 2:13 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you + Some manuscripts because God chose you as his firstfruits + to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.
2TI 1:9 who has saved us and called us to a holy life–not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
TIT 1:1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness–
2 a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,
JAM 1:18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
1PE 1:2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.
20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.
2PE 1:10 Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall,
JUD 1:4 For certain men whose condemnation was written about + Or men who were marked out for condemnation + long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.
REV 13:8 All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast–all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world. + Or written from the creation of the world in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain +
re God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.
