Pressure Packed

God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. Gen. 50:20

Scientists at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburg have recently generated the highest sustained pressure ever achieved in a laboratory -2.7 million atmospheres. This amounts to nearly 40 million pounds per square inch. These experiments are being conducted in an effort to produce metallic hydrogen. Scientists theorize that hydrogen will become a metal when subjected to between 2.5 to 3 million atmospheres.

Pressure means one thing in the controlled environment of the science laboratory, but it means something quite different in the explosive setting of human thoughts and feelings. In both laboratory and personal life, however, pressure can be beneficial. Look at Joseph. He was hated by his brothers, thrown into a hole, sold like a piece of property, taken to a foreign country, and separated from his adoring father. Then, after overcoming these trials,he was on the verge of greatness when he was falsely accused of sexual misconduct and thrown into prison. Yet the outcome was good. Through the pressures, God made Joseph into one of the strongest spiritual heroes in the Bible.

How can we survive the pressure of an evil environment like Joseph did? Notice his reaction throughout his ordeal. He was kind(Gen.40:6, 7), moral (Gen.39:7-12), humble (Gen.41:16),wise (Gen.41:35),and faithful (Gen.45:5-8). With the Lord’s help we too can display these characteristics. Then the pressures of life will make us – not break us. -M.R.D.II

Dear Father, we trust You now, And when the trials press We’ll cling to you more and more And wait for You to bless.
