Ingredients: 1/2 c Dried beef; chopped; 1/4 c Hot milk; 4 Louisiana yams; baked; 2 tb Onion; finely chopped; 3 tb Butter or margarine; 1/2 c Cheddar cheese; grated

Guilt is a universal experience for all humans. In His mercy, God has made all of us to experience guilt when we sin against Him. From birth, Romans 2 tells us that “the work of [God’s] Law written [on our] hearts.” Therefore the verse goes on to say that our “conscience [bears] witness and [our] thoughts alternately [accuse or defend us] (Rom. 2:15). It doesn’t matter how much our society or government ignores or explains away God’s law. The violation of God's law universally results in guilt for all people.

INGREDIENTS

1/2	c	Dried beef; chopped
1/4	c	Hot milk
4		Louisiana yams; baked
2	tb	Onion; finely chopped
3	tb	Butter or margarine
1/2	c	Cheddar cheese; grated

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine dried beef and milk in mixing bowl. Cut yams in half lengthwise and
scoop out centers. Combine yams, beef-milk mixture, onion, and butter. Beat
until light and fluffy. Fill yam shells with mixture. Sprinkle cheese on
top. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 20 minutes.

Self-denial, thus understood, will make us cold, hard, unsympathetic—proud, arrogant, self-esteeming—fanatical, overbearing, cruel. It may make monks and Stoics, it cannot make Christians.
