Name: Barfi Badam (Almond Cream Sweetmeat)
Ingredients: 4 c Milk; 3/4 c Sugar; 125 g Blanched almonds, pulverised; In blender, or 1 cup ground; Almonds; Pinch of ground cardamom; 2 tb Blanched pistachio nuts; Edible silver leaf-optional

We will do much better if we trust someone who was actually dead, not someone who was just near death. Christ, as we shall see, is the only One who is qualified to tell us what we can expect on the other side. He was dead – so dead that His body became cold and was put in a tomb. Three days later He was raised from the dead with a glorified body. Here is someone whose opinion can be trusted. To John this risen Christ said, “Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and Hades “ (Revelation 1:17-18). Reliable information does not come to us by trying to peer behind the partially open curtain. God alone knows what really lies on the other side of the veil. And that is why we can do no better than study what the Bible has to say about the Great Beyond.

INGREDIENTS

4	c	Milk
3/4	c	Sugar
125	g	Blanched almonds, pulverised
		In blender, or 1 cup ground
		Almonds
		Pinch of ground cardamom
2	tb	Blanched pistachio nuts
		Edible silver leaf-optional

INSTRUCTIONS

In a heavy-based saucepan or large frying pan boil the milk over fairly
high heat, stirring all the time, until it is reduced and very thick. Add
sugar and stir for 10 minutes on low heat. Add the ground almonds and
continue to cook and stir until the mixture comes away from sides and base
of pan in one mass. Remove from heat, sprinkle cardamom over and mix well.
Turn on to a greased plate. Smooth top with back of butter spoon. Cool
slightly, mark in diamond shapes with knife and decorate with halved
pistachio nuts and sliver leaf.
Before it is quite firm cut with sharp knife along the markings then leave
to get quite cold before separating into pieces.

I wish I saw more of this understanding of God’s grace among people who profess to be God’s children – the forbearance, love, mercy, gentleness, forgiveness, the humility, the ability overlook sin if appropriate and the absence of legalism, haughtiness and self-righteous spirits. I’m tired of the condemning remarks, the fight to win attitudes, the always expecting my way pursuits and grace-less relationships that are too frequently seen in Christian marriages. No wonder a young girl in a church once prayed, “Lord, make the bad people good and make the good people friendly.”
