Holiness is not attained, at least not in any lasting, life-changing way, merely through prohibitions, threats, fear, or shame-based appeals. Holiness is attained by believing in, trusting, banking on, resting in, savoring, and cherishing God’s promise of a superior happiness that comes only by falling in love with Jesus. The power that the pleasures of sin exert on the human soul will ultimately be overcome only by the superior power of the pleasures of knowing and being known, loving and being loved by God in Christ.

INGREDIENTS

2	c	Sugar
1	c	Water
4	c	Fresh berries
1		Lemon; scrape peel from
3	c	Vodka;
1	c	Sugar syrup

INSTRUCTIONS

Make sugar syrup by dissolving sugar in water over low heat. Stir
frequently. Cool. Lightly crush berries with fork. Add to vodka and lemon
peel. Steep at least 30 days. Strain; may add more sugar syrup at this
point. Allow to mature 2-3 weeks. Can use 2 cups vodka and 1 cup sweet
white wine.

Even if there were only one such, it would be one to weep over. In many churches the prayer-meeting is only the skeleton of a gathering: the form is kept up, but the people do not come. There is no interest, no power, in connection with the meeting. Oh, my brothers, let it not be so with you! Do train the people to continually meet together for prayer. Rouse them to incessant supplication. There is a holy art in it. Study to show yourselves approved by the prayerfulness of your people. If you pray yourself, you will want them to pray with you; and when they begin to pray with you, and for you, and for the work of the Lord, they will want more prayer themselves, and the appetite will grow. Believe me, if a church does not pray, it is dead. Instead of putting united prayer last, put it first. Everything will hinge upon the power of prayer in the church.
