INSTRUCTIONS
It sounds like your trying toduplicate a recipe for bread dumplings. My
father's side of the family is Czech. Here's their recipe for bread
dumplings, and it's a no fail one at that.
Sift together flour, salt, and baking powder. Add eggs, milk, and 2 slices
of bread. Mix well. Form into two dumplings. Let stand exactly 30 minutes.
Boil 12 minutes on one side and 12 minutes on the other side. Slice into
1/2-inch slices. Serve immediately.
I sometimes make a double batch of these and freeze the loaves
individually. I defrost the dumplings at room temperature. To reheat the
dumplings, you can either steam them or reheat in the microwave covered
with a damp paper towel.
