God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)
Without the cross, the conflagration lighted on the earth by the presence of Jesus would very soon be extinguished, and the world would speedily fall back to its undisturbed level (Frederic Godet).

A.M. Andrews asked for a 20-year old recipe she used to make that had
chocolate cake, cherry pie filling and chocolate pudding in it; from one of
my community cookbooks, comes "Chocolate Cherry Bars" which won $30,000 in
the 1974 Pillsbury Bake Off for Mrs. Emil Jerzak of Porter, MN. This recipe
doesn't have the pudding, but it's probably the one she's thinking of;
today's cake mixes can be purchased with pudding in the mix.
Preheat oven to 350 deg. Grease and flour a 13 x 9" pan. In large bowl,
combine cake mix, extract, pie filling and eggs. Stir by hand until well
mixed. Pour into prepared pan. Bake according to time limits on cake mix
directions or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
In small saucepan, combine sugar, butter and milk. Boil, stirring
constantly, for 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate pieces
immediately, beating until smooth. Pour over cake. Makes 36 servings.
