INSTRUCTIONS
Here is a traditional recipe for danish fried and pickled heering. I dont know if it is something like this you are referring to. Cut Heering(s) into filets, but leave skin on. Turn filets in wheat flower and fry in butter until light brown and done. make marinade : 2 cups white vinegar, 1 cup sugar, half a cup water, 2 onions in rings, a nip of salt and black pepper to taste. mix marinade in bowl until sugar is dissolved. Put fried heerings into marinade and let sit in fridge overnight. Enjoy heering (without the marinade) with fresh onion rings, dark bread, beer and aquavit. If you as a chile head prefer to add a dried chile or two to the marinade, you will probably enhance the pleasure.
