INSTRUCTIONS
Scald 1 quart milk. Add 1/2 cup sugar and a pinch of salt. Beat 6
whole eggs and add cold milk to them. Stir, and gradually add to the
hot milk mixture. Cook in top of double boiler until custard coats
the spoon. When cold, add the flavoring. We have a marvelous
cookbook entitled the First Ladies Cookbook which was published for
the bicentennial celebration. It has recipes from every president
from Washington to Carter. If you can find the book in your local
library it would give you a wealth of information. This is George
Washington's recipe for Rich Custard.
