INSTRUCTIONS
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and mix thoroughly. In a small bowl
combine flour, soda, salt, baking powder and nutmeg. Alternately add dry
ingredients and milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. (Dough will
be stiff). Chill overnight. Roll out 1/2 inch thick and cut with large
cookie cutter. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake 10-12 minutes in moderate (350)
oven.
NOTES : Instead of dairy sour cream we always used 1 cup of milk to which 1
tablespoon of vinegar had been added.
