INSTRUCTIONS
Dissolve yeast cake in tepid water and add warm milk. Mix with some flour
to make a thin batter. Leave to rise overnight. Add salt, sugar, melted
butter, nutmeg, beaten eggs and enough flour to make a dough such as for
bread. Allow to rise again. Shape into balls or twists by rolling out the
dough and cutting into strips about half inch thick, half inch wide and 4
inches long. Braid two or three strips together. Deep fry in oil till
brown, then drop into a syrup prepared by boiling together 3 cups sugar and
2 cups water with a stick o cinnamon. Drain on paper and cool.
NOTES : Koeksisters are a kind of doughnut which are braided. Very
delicious, very addictive, very fattening!
