This is from the Nov/Dec 1993 issue of Homemaker's Magazine.
Here's a recipe for some excellent cookies that are great at Christmas time
and should be fun to make with a little one.
Sift together flour, nutmeg and salt. Cream together the butter and sugar
until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually stir flour
mixture into butter mixture, stirring well after each addition, until all
flour is incorporated. On a lightly floured surface, form pieces of dough
into long 1/2-inch thick ropes. Cut ropes into 3-in pieces; place 1 inch
apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350F for 12 to 15 minutes or
until logs are lightly browned on bottom. Let cool completely before
frosting.
Frosting: Cream together icing sugar and butter until smooth. Stir in
enough rum to give a smooth spreading consistency. Spread cooled logs with
frosting. Drag tines of fork through frosting to resemble tree bark and
sprinkle with a little nutmeg. Makes about 40
