Nothing in Scripture teaches that the filling of the Spirit is accompanied by ecstatic experiences or external signs. To be sure, being filled with the Spirit does bring the believer tremendous exhilaration and joy, but the New Testament epistles reveal that being filled with the Spirit brings forth the fruit of the Spirit, not the gifts of the Spirit.

The Triune Nature Of man 1 of 59 THE TRIUNE NATURE OF MAN BC-02-4P LIVING IN THE FLESH (1st of 3) 2 Cor. 10:3

INTRODUCTION

  1. Man is a triune being (body, soul & spirit)
  2. Man is living in a fleshly body
  3. Flesh (Gr. Sarx), the body, as the symbol of what is external; human nature with its frailities & passions; carnal.
  4. THE FLESH IS WEAK (Mk. 14:38, “Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter

    into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak”

  5. Gal. 5:17, “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”
  6. Gal. 6:8, “He that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption”
  7. Jn. 6:63, “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing”
  8. Ro. 8:7-8, “The carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”
  9. 2 Cor. 7:5 (like Paul), “When we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side, without were fightings, within were fears.”
  10. 1 Cor 15:50, “Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.”

II. PAUL HAD CRUCIFIED THE FLESH (Gal. 5:24) “They that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts” A. Ro. 8:4, Jesus died “That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” B. Ro. 13:14, “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof” C. Gal. 2:20, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” D. TEXT (2 Cor. 10:3), “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh”

III. THE WORD (JESUS) WAS MADE FLESH (Jn. 1:14) “and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” A. Ro. 8:3, “God sent his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh” B. Jn. 17:2, “Thou hast given [me] power over all flesh, that [I] should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given [me]”

CONCLUSION

  1. Living in the flesh is enmity against God
  2. Living in the flesh will bring pain and trouble now & later
  3. Through Christ, we can crucify the flesh
    1. Walk in the flesh
    2. Live after the Spirit
  4. Accept God’s Spirit as the living force in your life NOW!
