Why Jesus WHY JESUS? by Anthony D. Burch

You may be reading this bulletin board and saying to yourself, “Why all this stuff about Jesus? Sure, he was a good man and a great teacher, but so what?”

American society has really deceived its people. Most people believe they have nothing to fear from God, if there even is a God? But most people are absolutely wrong. The Bible tells us plainly that there is a God and that “we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ” (Romans 14:10). This is why the Lord Jesus Christ is so important. He is the only one who can save us from the wrath of God on Judgment Day.

Let me tell you how a person can escape God’s wrath and have a personal relationship with the Lord. An individual can obtain a relationship with the Lord and be saved by putting his trust in the fact that Jesus Christ died on the cross to endure the wrath of God (Hell) for him. God’s salvation program can be explained with the following points:

  1. You are an enemy of God because of your sin. The Bible says in Isaiah 59:2, “But your iniquities [sins] have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear.”
  2. Worse than that, God is going to judge you for your sins. Matthew 13:49-50 teaches, “So it will be at the end of the age; the angels shall come forth, and take out the wicked from among the righteous, and will cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
  3. God did not leave us without hope. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to endure the wrath of God for us. Jesus Christ is God Himself; this is why He is able to pay for your sins. Colossians 2:9 says in reference to Christ, “For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form….”
  4. A person is saved because Christ endured the wrath of the Father (Eternal Hell) for that individual. Galatians 3:13 holds a wonderful promise, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us — for it is written, cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree….”
  5. As proof that Christ had paid the penalty for the sins of all the believers and that He defeated death, He arose from the dead on the third day. First Corinthians 15:3-6 records:

“For I delivered unto you as of first importance what I also received, that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas (Peter), then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time….”

If a person understands the Gospel of the Bible and repents of his sins and cries out to God for salvation God will hear his pleas and have mercy on him. First John 1:9 promises:

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Have you ever put your full trust in the shed blood of Christ to save you from your sins? If not, ask the Lord to save you today.
