God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

So, what’s so bad about complaining? One – it reveals a thankless heart. How much easier is it to complain about the two things we don’t have as compared to being grateful for the thousands of things we do have? How can we follow the commands to rejoice always (Phil. 4:4) and be thankful for all things (1 Thes. 5:18) if there is a mere morsel of complaining in our hearts? Two – complaining reveals greater sins. Why do we complain? Because we are jealous that someone has what we want. Because we are selfish that things are not going our way. Because we are discontent and unsatisfied in Christ’s sufficiency. And three – complaining distrusts the sovereignty of God. Complaining implies that God made a mistake; that He not ruling the world with perfect justice and wisdom and quite frankly, we could do a better job. That He’s personally unloving and unkind to us. Can we rightly accept the fact that God has a good plan for our lives, or do we complain in believing ours is better and thus cast doubt on our sovereign Creator?

Having lost the security of being rooted in the eternal reality of the Word of God, we are looking to busy activity to fill the void that has been created in our lives. And under that bondage to activity we find it difficult to linger with the Word simply for the joy of it. In fact, we may be afraid to stop our busyness lest it expose the shallowness of our lives. So we go on from activity to activity, from project to project. But activity is a dangerous source of fulfillment. Instead of finding our identity, our sense of self-worth, from our relationship with God, we begin to look to success in programs and other earthly indicators of success for our self-worth. But these will never satisfy. This will only enslave us more in our bondage to activity.

Raspberry Glace Pie

INGREDIENTS

1 Baked pie shell–9-inch
1 1/2 Quarts raspberries
1 c Sugar
3 tb Cornstarch
1/2 c Water
Few drops red food color, If desired
1 pk (3 ounces) cream cheese, Softened

INSTRUCTIONS

Prepare and bake pie shell. Mash enough raspberries to measure 1 cup. Mix
sugar and cornstarch in 2-quart saucepan. Gradually stir in water, food
color and mashed raspberries. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly,
until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 1 minute; cool.Beat cream
cheese until smooth. Spread in pie shell. Fill shell with remaining
raspberries. Pour cooked raspberry mixture over top. Refrigerate about 3
hours or until set. 8 SERVINGS; 330 CALORIES PER SERVING.
