We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

[The term] unconditional love, translated into unconditional approval… Jesus, however, can be angered and grieved by stubborn hearts (Mark 3:5). He severely rebuked His own disciples (Mark 8:33). The mind and emotions of God are His mind and emotions. His responses toward those who were both for Him and against Him were rich and lively. They cannot be contained by the word unconditional, especially when the word suggests that there is never any disapproval of a person’s behavior. If there were no disapproval of our behavior, there would have been no cross.

Martin Luther said that God wields two rods. One is the rod of Fatherly kindness – the rod of love and mercy to correct His children. The other is the club of anger flowing from justice and wrath toward His enemies. We know for the Christian, Christ took the rod of anger on our behalf. Justice was accomplished we He took our sin upon Himself. God’s wrath was fully exhausted upon Him. We have been forgiven and adopted into God’s family. Yet in that family we do receive the rod of correction from a Father that seeks to correct us when we sin. It is because He knows better than us the consequences of sin. It is because He loves us! Discipline is always a sign of love.

Grains, Dairy, Eggs 12 To 14 scon

INGREDIENTS

1/2 c Apple sauce
1/2 sm Onion; finely chopped
1 Jalapeno peppers; (or 1 habanero, depending on your tolerance!), stemmed, seeded, and finely diced. Better still if blistered and peeled first (up to 4)
2 c Flour
2 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Baking soda
1/2 ts Ground cinnamon
1/4 ts Ground ginger
1/8 ts Ground allspice
1/4 ts Salt
1/4 c Sugar
3/4 c Pumpkin puree
6 tb Ff sour cream
2 Egg whites; or 1 egg substitute equivalent
1/4 lb Baking raisins
1/4 c Honey
1 tb Jalapeno; Tabasco, or other hot sauce

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a small skillet, saute the apple sauce,
chopped onion and jalapeno and stir until onion is soft (about 2 minutes).
Don't stop stirring! Set aside to cool.
In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, soda, cinnamon, ginger,
allspice, salt, and sugar. MIx in the sauteed apple sauce, diced peppers
and onion until mixture resembles grains of rice. Make a well in the center
and add sour cream, pumpkin puree, egg whites and raisins to the well. Mix
together with a fork and gradually work in the mixture until a soft,
cohesive dough forms.
Drop the batter 1/3 cupful at a time 2 inches apart on a Pammed or nonstick
cookie sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, until puffed and firm on surface, but
fluffy in the center (mine tend to be somewhat elastic on the surface and
lightly moist inside). Transfer to a cooling rack, cover loosely with a
dish towel and cool for at least 5 minutes.
Mix honey with the jalapeno sauce and brush tops of the scones with this
mixture before serving.
Careful, they're addictive!
