I…remind you what the true ministry of the Holy Spirit looks like. It’s not chaotic, flashy, and flamboyant (like a circus). It’s usually concealed and inconspicuous (the way fruit develops). We cannot be reminded too often that the Holy Spirit’s primary role is to exalt Christ, especially to elicit praise for Christ from His people. The Spirit does this in a uniquely personal way, first of all by reproving and convicting us - showing us our own sin, opening our eyes to what true righteousness is, and making us sense deeply our accountability to God, the rightful Judge of all (John 16:8–11). The Holy Spirit indwells believers, empowering us to serve and glorify Christ (Rom. 8:9). He leads us and gives us assurance of our salvation (vv. 14–16). He prays for us with groanings too deep for words (v. 26). He seals us, keeping us secure in Christ (2 Cor. 1:22; Eph. 4:30). The Spirit’s daily presence is the source and the secret of our sanctification as He conforms us to the image of Christ.

First, faith believes God when He says that sexual relations in marriage are good and clean and should be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. Second, faith increases the joy of sexual relations in marriage because it frees us from the guilt of the past. Faith believes the promise that Christ died for all our sins, that in Him we might have guilt-free, Christ-exalting sexual relations in marriage. And finally, faith wields the weapon of sexual intercourse against Satan. A married couple gives a severe blow to the head of that ancient serpent when they aim to give as much sexual satisfaction to each other as possible. Is it not a mark of amazing grace that on top of all the pleasure that the sexual side of marriage brings, it also proves to be a fearsome weapon against our ancient foe?... It is not surprising then that Satan’s defeat, Christ’s glory, and our pleasure should come together in this undefiled marriage bed.

    INGREDIENTS

    1 1/2 lb Rhubarb; chopped
    1 c Sugar
    2 tb Minced shallots
    Juice of 2 lemons
    2 c White wine
    8 sl Fois gras -; (2 oz ea)
    === GARNISH ===
    1 Whole fresh chives
    1 tb Chopped chives

    INSTRUCTIONS

    In a sauce pot, combine the rhubarb, sugar, shallots, lemon juice and wine.
Bring the liquid up to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Simmer the rhubarb
for 30 minutes or until the fruit is tender. Remove from the heat and using
a hand-held blender, puree the rhubarb until smooth. Season with salt and
pepper. Season the fois gras with salt and pepper. In a hot saute pan, sear
the fois for 1 to 2 minutes on each side. Spoon the sauce in the center of
the plate. Arrange the fois in the center of the sauce. Garnish with long
chives and chopped chives. This recipe yields 4 servings.
