After the respite, the Christians again came under persecution, this time from Marcus Aurelius, in A.D. 61. One of those who suffered this time was Polycarp, the venerable bishop pf Smyrna... As he entered the stadium with his guards, a voice from heaven was heard to say, 'Be strong, Polycarp, and play the man.' No one nearby saw anyone speaking but many people heard the voice. Brought before the tribunal and the crowd, Polycarp refused to deny Christ, although the proconsul begged him to 'consider yourself and have pity on your great age. Reproach Christ and I will release you.' Polycarp replied, 'Eighty-six years I have served Him, and He never once wronged me. How can I blaspheme my King, who saved me?' Threatened with wild beasts and fire, Polycarp stood his ground.

When we are united to Christ a mysterious exchange takes place: He took our curse, so that we may receive His blessing; He became sin with our sin, so that we may become righteous with His righteousness... On the one hand, God declined to 'impute' our sins to us, or 'count' them against us, with the implication that He imputed them to Christ instead. On the other, God has imputed Christ's righteousness to us... We ourselves have done nothing of what is imputed to us, nor Christ anything of what is imputed to Him... He voluntarily accepted liability for our sins.

Roasted Peppers, Garlic, And Thyme

INGREDIENTS

2		Red peppers
2		Yellow peppers
1		Garlic bulb
		Few sprigs of thyme
1/2	c	Olive oil

INSTRUCTIONS

Grill and skin peppers per Roasted Red Bell Pepper Butter recipe
Grill, or bake garlic per Whole Roasted Garlic recipe. Squeeze out
individual garlic cloves. Place garlic, peppers and herbs in a mason
