HOPE CHEST HOME SCHOOL NEWS
EXTRAS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
MAY 10, 2001

Hello Hope Chest friends! As you have noticed, the regular issue for
May has not come out yet, due to an extra issue in mid-April! I intend
to send it either Friday or Saturday, just in time for Mother's Day. The
theme is Mother and Reading, so if you have anything related to that or
any other facet of home education, sent it to me quick!

Meanwhile, here are some extras and announcements for you all to enjoy.
I have not checked out ALL of the web links, most of which were sent by
readers, but I trust that they are legitimate. As usual, I've probably
forgotten several items I was supposed to include, but here's what I've
got.

Fellow homeschoolers:

The Home School Legal Defense Association is attempting to insert
language to protect our national homeschool freedoms into the already-
passed "Better Education for Students and Teachers" (BEST) bill.
Committee action to implement this bill is likely to begin May 2, and
it is now being debated.

Please go to

http://www.hslda.org/docs/news/hslda/200104201.asp

for complete information.

Get involved out there, folks. Our president is pro-homeschool, but
he can't do this alone!!

Forward this to all the pro-homeschoolers you know!

>From Kathy Frazier:

Linked with the above website is a site called "Mary's Page". Mary is
our ten year old daughter, who wanted to do this. She's set up a place
for homeschoolers to buy and sell used homeschool material. There is no
charge, so please check it out. She doesn't have much listed for sale
yet, because she just started it March 23rd, so if you have anything to
sell, it would help her get started if you listed it here. Even if you
don't want to buy or sell, it would be nice if you e-mailed Mary a word
of encouragement. This is her first venture into cyberspace. (My
baby...) Her e-mail link is on the page. It's

Date: Sun, 6 May 2001 14:05:38 -0700

This is a public service message from the publishers of Home Education
Magazine.

We're asking for help from the online homeschooling community to get ALL
links to http://www.home-ed-press.com changed to http://www.home-ed-magazine.com
as quickly as possible. The old home-ed-press URL is currently linked to
a pornographic website administrated by a company in Armenia. WARNING -
Please DON'T check out that old home-ed-press site out of idle curiosity,
because it is a "virulent"* porn site that will keep opening multiple
windows until your browser or your whole machine crashes. If you're
really *that* curious to see what's there, please save everything before
clicking the link. *virulent - highly infective, rapidly spreading,
deadly.

This message is on our website at
http://www.home-ed-magazine.com/badurl.html. We will post any updates and
additional information on that page.

Thank you for whatever you can do to help!
