It is a blessing and a confidence boosting experience to have a good and clear conscience. Notice the words of David, “Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity and in whose spirit there is no deceit.” Psalm. 32:2. David experienced the terrible pain of a pricking conscience.
He writes, “When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was turned in to the draught of summer." Psalm.32:3, 4.A guilty conscience makes us sad and gloomy. It takes away our strength and disturbs our mind. We lose the boldness to stand up and speak out. Oh, it is a painful experience indeed to live with a guilty conscience.
On the contrary, listen to Apostle Paul who maintained a clear conscience before God and man. "For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly to you." 2 Corithians.1:12
Some Corinthians misunderstood Paul, and misinterpreted his actions to accuse him. They questioned his integrity and apostleship. Yet he was not disappointed, nor weakened but rejoicing in the Lord. The main reason he attributes tohis sincerity that his conscience testifies.
He says, “Here we are not writing any other things to you than what you read or understand.” 2Cor.1:13. In other words, he has no hidden motive. He is the same outside and inside. What he writes and intends is the same. He does not change stand, no double life. Such transparent life strengthens him to stand boldly for the cause of God. Earlier also we see him appealing to his clear conscience. Act.23:1; 24:16; Romans. 9:1
Do we have such sincerity and simplicity? Are we true in our intentions? What is the driving force behind our actions? Is there any hidden agenda in our activities even if spiritual apparently!
We are living in a market oriented world. Management experts are striving to plan ways to get a market share. In their effort to canvass the customers many approach with subtle schemes and ads. Yes, they have a hidden agenda: profit! Such should not be the practice of a Christian. Our life should be transparent, genuine and with out any hidden motive.
Notice that Paul does not simply claim honesty based on the testimony of his conscience. He also appeals to the testimony of God and even Corinthians themselves. “Moreover I call God as witness against my soul..” 2 Cor.1:23, 18. “You have understood us in part..”2 Cor.1:14. Corinthians knows very well that Paul never used any tricks or enticing words when he came to preach the gospel to them. 1 Cor.2:1—5.
We can not just satisfy ourselves leaning upon our conscience. A study about conscience reveals that though it is the God-given internal judge with in every man, it can not be the ultimate judge. Conscience guides us according to our conviction on divine truths. Conscience needs to be enlightened and strengthened by the word of God. The ultimate judge is God. What God would testify is that matters. At the same time people around us will also know who we are! Paul was sure he will come clean and clear before the scrutiny of God, people and even his own conscience.
What made him to lead such a real and reliable life? Was it just a show like acting humility and purity! He refers to four things that prompt him in living a true life.
- The Grace of God. V.12b. Basically the reason is God in His grace washed his wicked conscience by the precious blood of Christ and strengthens to lead a genuine life. It is not by self-effort, but the working of God.
- The day of Christ. V.14b. Another factor that prompts him in living a sincere life is the coming judgement seat of Christ where the entire motive will be revealed.2Cor.5:10.
- The example of Christ. V.18, 19. His master whose message he preached among them was not inconsistent. His ‘yes;’ was ‘yes’ and ‘no’ was ‘no’.
- The example of God. V.18, 20. God is faithful in all His promises.
Let us ponder upon these four important factors that call upon us also to live a straight and consistent life. That will give us also boldness and strength in our Christian life and ministry. Yes there is power in integrity. Strength to stand firm, courage to speak out, all come out of this sincerity and simplicity.

Oil for the lamp Golden Lamp stand
Charles Wigg Tanzania
Brought by the people: The pure olive oil was to be brought by the people as an offering to God. It was first brought by the rulers; Ex. 53; 28, and later the people were to bring it. Lev. 24:1-4. This teaches us the part that the elders and all the Assembly members are to play in the maintenance of the testimony in the local Church. It is a sad feature of our day that often the men are so taken up with material things and in their leisure time with sport or relaxation of some kind, watching television etc that they have lost all concern to contribute what they should to the local Assembly. Often they come to the meetings with nothing to contribute, and are quite happy to encourage women to take a public place of leadership, all of which is contrary to the explicit and repeated commands of the New Testament.
Pure olive oil: It is also important to notice that only pure olive oil was to be used. We have already seen that this is a type of the Holy Spirit, however it is another disturbing feature of the days of departure from God's word in which we are, that many are being deceived by other spirits, who though posing as, and claiming to be the Holy Spirit, yet cause people to act in direct disobedience to the word of God that the Holy Spirit has inspired.
We may be sure, that any spirit that cause people to act, or behave in ways contrary to the word of God that He has inspired, is not the Holy Spirit. Let us take to our hearts what the word of God teaches us, and refuse these other spirits any place in our minds, hearts or Assemblies.
Principles of Christian Conduct
- Is it lawful? 1Cor.6:12
- Is it beneficial to me? 1 Cor.6:12
- Is it enslaving? 1 Cor.6:12
- Is it consistent with Christ’s Lordship? 1 Cor.6:19, 20.
- Is it helpful to others? 1 Cor.10:13
- Is it consistent with Biblical example? 1 Cor.11:1
- Is it for the glory of God? 1 Cor.10:31.
Anecdote:-
The Broken Trail
In the 14th century, Robert Bruce, next in line to the Scottish crown, led the fight to gain independence fro England. At one point in the conflict, the English were about to capture him. He escaped into the forest, so they put bloodhounds on his trail.
When Bruce heard the dogs baying loudly as they closed in on him, he headed for a stream that flowed through the forest, plunged in, and waded upstream, a short distance. Coming out on the other bank, he was now in the depths of the forest. With in minutes, the hounds, tracing Bruce’s step, came to the bank, but they went no further. The English soldiers urged them on, but the trail was broken. The stream had carried the smell away. A short time later, the crown of Scotland rested on the head of Robert Bruce.
The memory of our sins, prodded on by Satan, can be like those baying dogs. But a steam flows, red with the blood of God’s own Son. If we trust Jesus Christ, we need never fear being condemned for our sins. Our guilt is gone forever because of Christ’s shed blood.

Ministry in Madagascar
Madagascar, the island nation in the Indian Ocean, close to Africa was a French colony won independence in June 1960.52% of the population is Animist, 41% Christians and 7% Muslims.
The Assembly work in Madagascar was established by the efforts of some native brethren who had their Bible training in La Reunion, led by Brethren missionaries in the 1989. In the beginning ministry was only in 4 areas, but now there are about 40 churches and the majority are in the South and the East-South.
In provinces, it’s not difficult to preach the gospel, that’s why, there are many churches there and the people are ready to listen to the Gospel, but it’s not the case in Tana, the capital, like any big city in the world. So, it’s a big challenge for the brethren there.
Apart from the local language they have ministry in French too. In 1991 they began a Bible school. The brethren make every effort to make use of the freedom they have for evangelism there. They have open air preaching, door to door ministry as well as personal evangelism.
Pray for brother Serge Razafintsambina who labours with the French speaking assembly in Tana the capital. There, most of them come from India and China and a lot of them speak French. The problem is that they are closed for the gospel. Brother Serge is prayerfully trying to reach out to them.

Good Friday and Easter Celebrations
Christians around the world marked the day of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection on March21 and 23 respectively.
In Jerusalem Christian pilgrims prayed along the traditional route Christ took to His crucifixion. Many were bearing large wooden crosses. In some countries the faithful carried effigy of Christ on the cross. Some others walk through the streets for hours to remind the sufferings of Christ.
In Philippines some whipped their own back until they bled and volunteers re-enacted the crucifixion. Neighbors dressed like Roman soldiers dragged them through streets toward a barren hill where three wooden crosses and a large crowd awaited. Seven inch metal nails were driven into the both palms and feet as they lay over the crosses, which were then raised about five minutes. The process repeated for around 20 men.
It’s a sad truth that so many so-called Christians fail to comprehend the truths related to the death and resurrection of Christ. They blindly celebrated these days in Christ’s name and be away from the benefits of His atoning sacrifice. Christ died and rose again, that is true, but the most important thing is to experience the eternal redemption that He has accomplished by His sacrifice once for all. With out that all these ritual has no meaning at all.
Moreover, He has commanded His people to remember His sufferings, not just once in a year but whenever participating from the Lord’s Supper. The disciples observed it every first day of the week.News &b Views:2:-
Vatican Tightens Rules on ‘saint making’!
According to Reuters, Vatican instructs the bishops to be more careful before beginning the procedure to make some one saint. According to the Vatican rule, no procedures for sainthood can begin until five years after the death of the potential candidate. The Late Pope John Paul made an exception to this rule to start the saintho9od procedure for Mother Teresa of India.
During his reign of 27 years John Paul beatified nearly 1340people and canonized nearly 500, more than all his predecessors combined since the current procedures began in 1588.
The current Pontiff, Pope Benedict made another exception to start saint-hood process for John Paul about six weeks after his death in 2005. No wonder people began to criticize Vatican as a ‘saint factory’!Truly strange, the so-called learned men simply keep the people in darkness with such unscriptural ideas. The Bible emphatically says that no man can forgive our sins or make saints. It is God who justifies the wicked, only by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross. It’s the blood of Christ that cleanses us from all evil. The believer in Christ is already a saint by call.

Marriage Rates in UK Falling
According to the provisional marriage figures for 2006 only 23 out 1000 unmarried men and 21 out of 1000 unmarried women UK choose to marry! This is the lowest level since records began in 1862.
At the same time number of single, divorced or widowed people rose in 2006. Also it has been reported that among those who opt for marriage, the majority are from South Asians living in UK. Many feel that at this rate marriage could soon become a minority house hold format.
When the society and even the government encourage not only divorce and re-marriage but also cohabitation and serial partnerships, what more can we expect, but the killing of the marriage institution itself.
Just recently a famous Indian actor who divorced at least two wives said, ‘marriage is folly and it will go away very soon!’ The only hope for mankind as always is to go back to the Biblical principles of marriage. It’s God who declared ‘it is not good for man to be alone’ and instituted marriage. By breaking His law and searching new avenues man is only going down to utter confusion and sin.
