Hello to members of my two chapel e-mail letters:

I am sending this note to everyone on all of my e-mail group letters, so it is possible you may receive more than one copy of this notice.

Most of you will remember that many who have/had Yahoo e-mail addresses have usually been deleted from our lists because Yahoo kept blocking the letters as SPAM.  I frequently urged such members to use another e-mail address such as sbcglobal.net, JUNO, Gmail, or something similar.

Well, NOW AOL EARTHLINK, AND JUNO have joined the ranks and are often delaying my letters, sometimes not delivering them at all.

Here is a notice I received today from Glen, the owner of the service I use.  He has been providing free e-mail service to scores of Christian ministries for over twenty years at his own expense, and is constantly monitoring problematic issues like this.  Many of the major servers are getting worse in blocking legitimate letters instead of improving.

So, if you are an AOL, Earthlink, or Juno user, I would strongly suggest you send me, WITH YOUR NAME SO I KNOW WHO NEEDS THE CHANGE, a different e-mail address.  I use Gmail as my backup address and centurylink as my primary.  I rarely use it because of what Google is doing in political and economic circles that promote far-left Liberalism, Progressivism, and Socialism.  Glen recommends one I've never heard of before, but I trust his expertise and judgment.  It is gmx.com.

So, read Glen's letter below, , if you are an AOL, Earthlink, or Juno user, PLEASE take action to avoid being dropped from my lists.

With everything else going on in our country right now by big tech, I can't help but wonder of this is all "agenda driven".

In His Bond,

Bob / Pastor Bob

Hi everyone, and Happy New Year!

Unfortunately, AOL has apparently now joined the ranks of failing email companies that use an outdated strategy of greylisting email servers.  With this strategy, they expect "good" email servers to keep retrying to send email over and over, until some unannounced delay threshold is reached, at which time they will accept the email.

This approach was known to be unreliable and problematic a decade ago.  It creates needless email delays, internet congestion, and blocks both good and bad servers.  Email was meant to work well - not be crippled like greylisting does.

welovegod.org/Welovegod.org does retry sending the mail, but AOL isn't honoring the frequency or number of retries.  Here's an example of how we try to play nice with AOL:

  • 2021-01-01 13:11:46.981327500 starting delivery 156704: msg 113247380 to remote glen_a_stewart@aol.com
    • 7 minute delay until trying again
  • 2021-01-01 13:18:27.816056500 starting delivery 156710: msg 113247380 to remote glen_a_stewart@aol.com
    • 20 minute delay until trying again
  • 2021-01-01 13:38:27.042594500 starting delivery 156774: msg 113247380 to remote glen_a_stewart@aol.com
    • 38 minutes have passed, and the AOL user still doesn't have their email from us.

As with Juno and Earthlink... if you have subscribers using these services, please advise them of the problem and suggest they use another email service.

I did a study last year, to find a reliable, mature, free email service, and concluded that gmx.com was such a company.  I have had no problems sending/receiving mail from their service, so recommend them.  I don't recommend Gmail, but it also works.

Thanks,

Glen

Juno.com and earthlink.net seem to be blocking valid emails from welovegod.org and welovegod.org.  We are not on any blocklist, and emails to/from gmail work fine, so this seems to be some decision Juno and Earthlink are making.  They might be using a (out of date and out of favor) greylist strategy to block spammers, which involves denying email for a few tries or a certain amount of time... we definitely try several times to deliver the mail, but it's not going thru.

This problem has been going on for at least 2 months.

I am not going to pursue this further.  If you have subscribers using these services, please advise them of the problem and suggest they use another email service.

Thanks!

Glen
